The best $2 meal in the zona...Imitation is the most sincerest form of flattery

One of the best deals in TJ is the chicken cart at the end of the alley in the zona near Niños Heroes. It's open 24 hours. For $2 you get rice, bean, tortillas and a fried chicken leg and thigh. They even have delicious chicken mole (pronounced moh-lay and is a spicy sauce) that you can get for the same $2.  Two pieces of chicken in mole sauce.

I have only gotten sick twice in TJ from the food in 10 years and it wasn't in the zona.  YOu can alsoget food poisening in the US as well.  I do drink bottled water in TJ.  The ice in the bars is purified.  Personally I tend to avoid the cart seafood and cut up fruit.  Everyone has their own comfort eating level in TJ of what and where they will eat.  It's up to you.

I see where another troll has popped  up and is posting as Juanstijuana2.  I am flattered.  I would encourage all that are seious about TJ to post their positive info and just ignore the flamers.  With the time delay for posts I would think TER would be reading and approving the posts and would eliminate this sort of thing as their policy clearly states on the top of the TJ thread.  "This is a moderated forum in which flames and messages outside the forum topic will be deleted. Please do not post messages that are simply mean, or meant to cause trouble for trouble's sake."  I would say there has been quite a bit of mean spirited posts!

It's one reason sites with discussion boards go pay so that this kind of stuff is eliminated.  Having to register to post sometimes isn't enough as many open boards have their share of flaming, phony users and multiple ID's.  Viva la Internet! :)  As we all know, imitation is the most sincerest form of flattery, so thank you.

Juan

I'am with you Juan, I remember alot of these posters from some of the old boards, which because of these type of flame wars either went under or membership. So let's keep it civil & informative & cut the BS,and stick to info that may help fellow posters.
Thanks

Juan is right about the food. I've been going to TJ for quite a while and only once had a mild case of an upset stomach.

BUT here in the US, I've had food poisoning 5 times.

You do have to be careful about where you eat since there isn't a Health department in TJ, like in most major cities but word spreads fast if a place is not clean and people get sick.

Best rule of thumb when looking for a place to eat (in any city in the world), look for locals eating since they know which place is clean and good.
