Rent due, cops out in force...

With the new construction in the zona there seems to be more and more cop cars out.  Not the auxiliary guys but the guys in blue uniforms that carry guns and drive in cars and paddywagons.  If you are on the street (probably not the alley or by AB) in the zona at night there is a greater chance these days that you are going to get searched.  I know a lot of guys lately that have been searched.  Just do what they say and remain calm.  Usually they make you put your arms up against the car or truck and spread your legs.  They go through everything and will ask you a lot of questions.  In nearly 10 years in TJ I have now probably been searched around 15 times.

I have never seen so many cop trucks out in the zona as last night.  Rumor is that when rent is due on the first of the month  (also the Christmas holiday time) more cops are looking for bribes.  I hear this over and over from locals living in TJ. Myself and a friend got searched at 6 AM last night. This search was insane. I'm surprised the cop didn't put a finger up my ass crack looking for drugs.

He went through everthing. All my pockets, boots, and went through all my stuff. I had some pocket pack Listerine packs and the cop even removed them and went through them with his dirty hands. (I looked at them) I had to dump them after. Like I'm going to put those in my mouth. After about ten minutes and a lot of questions they let me and my friend go. Like I said, this is always worse the first of the month when rent is due. These guys are way too aggressive. They asked me if I had drugs or arms. Yeah I do. I handed him my kilo of coke and pulled out my gun and shot him. :)

I had a similar experience once, but can't remember if it was on the first of the month.  I was going from CC to Diva's on Revolucion and some guy kept following with a sad story.  I gave the guy a buck to get rid of him and the next think I knew the cops had both of us against a paddy wagon.  The search wasn't as intense as you describe, just annoying.  They seemed to find something on the guy (I couldn't see what, but suspected drugs) and put him in the paddy wagon.  They asked me a couple of times if I did drugs and I kept saying no.  Although they went through my wallet and money clip they never took anything nor did they hint they wanted a bribe.  After five to ten minutes they let me go without taking anything or receiving a bribe.  When I left the other guy was still in the paddy wagon.  It was early evening, but I called it a night and took a taxi back to the border.  Thanks for the warning about the first of the month.
