I just love watching the Laker games but I am getting more and more into it. Lebron or Melo? Any interesting fact you guys may have about the lakers?

But a team of Kobe, Pau, Carmello, Sonny, and another guard would be a pretty good starting 5.

Be nice to land both, but no salary space, with Kobe's contract, then add James and Melo, there's just no dinero. But I'm not big on Melo and Kobe together, remember there's only one ball and 24 seconds to shoot.

Hiuge Laker fan back from the days of Gail Goodrich and Kermit Washington.

Lakers need to cut bait with Kobe.  As great as he was, his cap space is just too huge.....and he won't take a pay cut.  Lakers should have amnestied him last year...would have freed up a TON of cap space.   Plus, Kobe will not work with either Lebron or Melo.  All are ball hogs who shoot 30 times a game.

Laker trivia - Name the starting 5 when Magic was a rookie.

Kareem, Magic, Norm Nixon, Jamal, and either Jim Chones or Spencer Haywood

Well, we are the only team in the NBA that doesn't want him then.

Do old school laker fans remember Don Ford? #35 I think.  He was Rambis without the glasses.

Impressive...most people don't get Chones.

Growing up one of my friends lived down the street from Jamal.  He used to let us shoot hoops with in is driveway.  Really nice guy.

So did Worthy come when Nixon left or Jamal?

Kermit Washington (mentioned by someone else) - never really the same player after Rudy Tomjonovich punched him...

There seems to be a lot of hatred towards Kobe.  While his personality is very abrasive, to say the least, he is still one of the greatest Lakers to ever wear the purple and gold.  Shaq has a charming personality, but Shaq with all his charm never kept in playing shape for most of his career.  Remember when Shaq wanted to have a surgery that would have sideline him during the regular season instead of having it during the off season?  His reasoning was that people in the real world have surgeries that sideline them from work, Why shouldn't he?  I ask do many of you have a career that allow you to take 3 months off like a professional NBA player?  What if Shaq would have stayed in shape?  How many championships would he have under his belt?

Kobe with all his personal faults, plays to win!  He hates to lose and you can see his disdain for last year's rosters effort on the court.  Remember when he tried to play with his torn Achilles?  Can you say the same thing about Shaq?  If the Lakers did not retain Kobe with the new contract, How many fans would attend games?  It is worth it for the Lakers to pay him that much for the mere fact he puts people in the seats, otherwise why would the fickle LA fan go to a Lakers games?  These are the reasons I will always respect Kobe the player.  Giving his all on the court to bring another championship to LA, my home town!

Kobe has been awesome for the Lakers.  But it's time for him to retire.  those were two MAJOR injuries.  Even though he's "100%", he's not 100% compared to the younger talent.  sure with age comes wisdom of the game but his body can't handle much more.  Time to walk gracefully into retirement Kobe.

This is true, the time has come for Kobe to retire.  But like many professional players with a gladiator mentality, he will have to be carried off the court.  No man likes to be told it is time to hang it up, because pride always gets in the way.
