U.S. says dentist laundered money for prostitution ring

January 19, 2006

A wealthy Chicago dentist was indicted Wednesday on charges he laundered money for a nationwide prostitution ring that sometimes used teenage prostitutes.  The charges accuse dentist Gary S. Kimmel of allowing a pimp and prostitutes to use condominiums he owned in Marina City and contend Kimmel accepted $405,000 to finance the purchase of about a dozen luxury cars to transport prostitutes out of state and to meet clients.  U.S. Atty. Gen. Alberto Gonzales last month announced one of the largest coordinated investigations of child prostitution rings and Kimmel's indictment grows out of that probe, which began in 2003.

As part of the probe, 31 others including alleged pimp Robert Lewis Young, who court records contend worked with Kimmel in Chicago, were charged in federal cases in four states last month. In the cases announced last month, more than 30 child victims were identified. Federal authorities said that more than 200 children had been identified as victims since the investigation, dubbed "Innocence Lost," began in 2003. Kimmel could not be reached for comment.

The charge of money laundering alleges Kimmel attempted to conceal the fact the vehicles were for a pimp by making false statements to credit companies, insurance firms and law enforcement agencies. His office at 233 E. Erie St. was searched on Nov. 18 by FBI agents, according to a client of the dentist who was present at the time. In addition, sources said his luxury condo in Marina City was also raided. Kimmel, who lives in Marina City, owns nine units in the building worth more than $1 million that the government is seeking to forfeit as part of the charges filed on Wednesday.

Federal authorities have moved to seize the apartments if a judge orders them forfeited, according to land records.  Young was charged in federal courts in Michigan and Hawaii last month on counts including sex trafficking of children, transportation of a minor for criminal activity, interstate distribution of pornography and sex trafficking by force.

In addition to the $405,000, Kimmel, 56, is charged with accepting $30,000 from another unidentified pimp and accepting cash from Young.  He also performed free dental work on the prostitutes and Young and others, court documents contend.  In February 2004, Chicago police were investigating the ring and actually arrested a woman for prostitution in one of the units owned by Kimmel, according to court records.  One of the working girls was known as "Secret," and Kimmel allegedly obtained the vanity license place with that name for the $50,500 Corvette that he had purchased for the ring, according to court records.

The vehicle was used to drive a 17-year-old girl, who was flown in from Hawaii and then driven to Detroit to meet a client.  Court documents contend Kimmel's telephone lines were wiretapped by a court order and that he had been under surveillance by federal agents since at least February. Court records said the FBI worked with five confidential informants who worked as prostitutes for the ring, including the 17-year-old.

Between September 2000 and June 2005, more than $300,000 in cash was deposited into the personal account of Kimmel and his wife. In addition, $530,000 was transferred from his dental business bank account into the personal account between June 2000 and August 2005.  Marina City residents have known for weeks about the federal investigation.  One resident, who asked not to be identified, said Kimmel openly talked about it at a recent Christmas party.  The resident said Young was known as "Diamond," and court documents filed on Wednesday contend his nickname was "Blue Diamond."

I know that I am scared of Big Brother coming after me but men who kidnap/force innocent teenage children into prostitution should be hung.....

I have more confidence at this age than my twenties....providers should be older, more mature women who can hold their own to johns via vocal requests on services and thro conversation.

I agree with wannarideher's sentiments but not her wording.  These men might deserve to be hanged, but I couldn't care less about whether they're hung.

it is a bad thing to say but I was almost abducted by a drug dealer/police informant walking home from school at age 14 and when I contacted the police, they did nothing but lock the guy up overnight and charge him w/ trepassing on school property.

he had felonies on his record...this was before megan's law and polly klass 3 strikes you are out ruling

they made me feel like I was the one on trial.
That is why I love this hobby....I have met wonderful men who actually are more interested in pleasing you and making you happy than what I get in the dating scene.

it is bad to want someone to die, it destroys your health via negative stress

negative stress.

It's very satisfying and healthy to just get it over with, ie, hang guys like Osama, Chuck Manson, etc.

One problem with criminal law is that it can't guess or punish a person for what they might do - to stick a guy with "attempt" (eg kidnapping in your case) you have to show that he tried and failed (very rough explanation.)

Another problem is that the police often feel forced to get in bed with the bad guys in order to keep track of them - ie, the informants are quite often pretty bad guys themselves, and sometimes the cops tend to protect them when they ought to cut them off.

Hang, Hanged, Hung

The judge ordered the executioner to hang the condemned prisoner.  After he was hanged his body hung from the gallows.  A plastic surgeon is the only person who could have hung himself.

General discussion board, I feel for you.  There is much that I have to learn - and I am older than you.  And there are reasons that I wish to learn.  I suspect that in another place and in another time - we would like each other - but that would, in general, be before the world put its imprint on us both.

Early in my development, I was somewhat told that "escorts" were not appropriate people for me to "hang out" with.  After my marriage, or more accurately during my marriage, I discovered that there are people who are "escorts" but don't provide.  I am happy to have met many wonderful, kind and generous ladies in this business, would that we met when I was young and perhaps less stupid than I was, who knows what might have been.

Truth be told, most of us want to be loved, needed and respected.  Something happens in a few of us, our biological processes are not quite normal, we get exposed to one too many xenobiotics and we get a slight alteration in what we want from others.  While I do not use this to excuse bad or harmful behaviour, I do find this view useful in understanding why some do what they do.  For anyone to force themselves on another - whether it be for sex - or any other purpose - is  not right.

Wannarideher, I don't totally understand why it is that you, through your writings and muses on this board have touched me, but you have.  Perhaps it is your honesty about how you feel - that comes through - please keep writing as it does touch me - in a very honest way.  I think that you speak from the heart.

Best to you.

but there are times I wanted to hit the edit button. Sometimes I get so lonely not being able to talk about this hobby to my parents or friends. When I get drunk, I want to walk right up to the police and scream on the top of my lungs that escorts can at least pay their own bills and provide for their children when welfare and child support fails but then sidone's posts remind me that I will most likely go to jail as every officer will be paying attention to me to set the example

I hate being italian, scottish and irish and drunk. I can't keep my opinions on this hobby and LE to myself
