thinking I can fix/handle this, NP! I lost..... LOL
Yes, I did have 2 antivirus programs on my computer, both programs set to run daily and updates check every few days...

Computer shut down during the middle of running the uninstall command, Windows XP...  Can't get to the setup screen for a boot or Net System menu...error message ---> NTLDR is missing (press ctrl+ALT+Del to restart)  Didn't help...
So,  Any ideas how to install the NTLDR and ntdect?  If I can't resolve this little set back, any recommendation on a computer technician?

Thank you in advance, any help is appreciated,  Nicole

If your computer shut down during the middle of the uninstall command, chances are high that your computer simply crashed. It probably wasn't a virus at all. Are you sure it was a virus? That is, did one of the anti-virus programs notify you somehow?

First question: What was it that you were trying to uninstall? The program probably still has bits and pieces lying around. It is also possible that the Operating System still thinks it needs parts of that program.

Second question: Do you have installation media? That is, do you have a CD-ROM with the Windows XP operating system on it?

The first thing you need to do is to try and get the machine to boot. Try and boot the machine into Safe Mode. Let me know if you need assistance here.

If you can get the machine to boot into safe mode, check the uninstaller and see if the original program still shows up. If it does, try to uninstall it again.

If that doesn't work, there's another option. Windows XP has a "roll-back" feature that allows you to restore the machine to a previously saved state. You can try to have the OS configure itself for oh, say, last Tuesday. The idea is to roll it back to some time before you had the crash.

If that doesn't work, try re-installing the program (to put everything back the way it was). Once you have re-installed the program, uninstall it.

If you can't get the machine to boot into Safe Mode, you may have to boot from the CD-ROM. You have to be careful here, because you don't want to inadvertently reformat you hard drive and install the OS from scratch.

From the CD-ROM, Windows should be able to detect that there's already an OS on the disk drive. You should have the option to repair or re-install the OS. Try the repair option first. If that doesn't work you'll have to consider re-installing the OS. There are many things to consider at this point, and I can't possibly discuss them all in this forum. We're getting into long distance brain surgery here. It's bad enough over the phone, e-mail is even worse.

If you feel any of this is beyond your ability then you'll have to contact someone for technical support. If possible, call the place that built (or sold you) your computer (Dell, Gateway, your local shop, Best Buy, etc.). They should be able to diagnose this (except for possibly BB) and recommend a course of action.

I'm not local to LV, so I don't know any good technician in your neck of the woods. Ask around for a highly recommended local computer vendor. You want someone who understands these tempermental beasts, not just someone who bangs them out by the 100's every month.

If all of the above fails, PM me and I'll see what I can do. I do not repair computers for a living (not per my job description, anyway) but have more experience than I care to admit where nursing sick Windows operating systems back to health are concerned.

I do have a back ground in Engineering, Thin file head technology (magnetic read/write heads) I should be able to do this, with all the information you supplied. I'll either kill it completely or up and running soon.

First answer: I was attempting to uninstall everything.  A few people thought a virus cause the situation,,, but the problems  started soon after I load a program BoosterXP similar to the window washer,  1, started splitting files and folders. ...some info went into  a briefcase other were orphanage files.  2. windows updates failed,   exe, dll files, who know where there went... 3. was turning  every thing into shortcuts or more copies of every thing. Many were just empty files. Restore (roll back) and backup disk, helped at first.  Soon after that hardware failures ... devices, adapters, drivers, network, lost IP address ... slow death march...wizards deserted me. It was over...LOL

Second answer: Yes, CD-ROM with the Windows XP operating system.  System shutdown happened within a few minutes of  uninstall command...OS, was still in process of copying data.

send email address and I'll keep you updated on my adventure.  Nicole

Try this and see if it solves your problem:

If WinXP will not start, it may be due to a damaged boot sector or a missing or corrupt ntldr or ntdetect.com files. If there is a specific error message "NTLDR is missing", you need to replace the file. To replace, access the recovery console and enter:

1. Copy X:\i386\NTLDR C: (X is your CD ROM drive letter)
2. Copy X:\i386\NTDETECT.COM C:

make sure your Windows XP disk is in your CD drive so you can boot up to the recovery console.

Bob

ntldr has to due with the driver for the floppy drive...remove the floppy disk and reboot ...you should be ok...
