Does anyone know of a nice, clean, inexpensive innercity hotel my Grandma could stay at when she visits Chicago?  Other than going on Priceline or another one of the sites, anyone have any leads on this type of thing? Appreciate it alot.

Try www.site59.com
I've found some unreal deals.  The trick is that it's "last minute" so you can't plan very far ahead.

when you say 'inner city' do you mean downtown?  or do u mean 'inner city' as in the south side?

If you are talking about downtown try getting a room at the Congress Plaza, they are just about the lowest priced hotel downtown.

Arriving Midway, and she needs to be someplace central to the shopping area and safe.

By safe, we mean, no crack houses or scarey things like we all know the city can have.

Congress Hotel is close enough to the shopping and far enuff from the crack houses.  And it's usually under 150 a night.

Chicago is like any large city.  You must be saavy and if you are, you will have no problems.  If you are not interested in using Priceline or Hotwire, There are a string of hotels near Midway.  Hampton Inn, etc.  Some have shuttle service from the airport.  Additionally, Grandma would be able to catch Chicago's public transportation if she is interested in downtown attractions.  If not, app. 2 miles from Midway Airport is Ford City Shopping with plenty of restaurants, shopping and movies.

Hell man, the "inner city" is probably the hottest real estate market in Chicago.  Grandma can do lines with execs and attorneys and not worry about crack.  lol

There is a Best Western at 162 E Ohio (1 block from Michigan Ave), that is close to everything and has a rate of $79.20 through hotels.com.   It seems to be popular with the older set, foreign tourists and the occasional provider.

Also recommend the Tremont at 100 E Chestnut or the Seneca at 200 E Chestnut.  $76.45 and $85.50 on hotels.com.

There's a bunch of hotels in the Streeterville neighborhood just east of Michigan Avenue.  A number of them are priced similarly.  Even the Embassy Suites at Columbus and Illinois runs deals on the weekend.

The Congress is on the south side of the loop.  Not easy walking to stores on North Michigan.  It's priced similarly.
