How worried should I be about extortion?

So I'm dipping my toe back into the hobby after a long absence (10+ years).  My RS2K stopped long ago and as I understand it they basically got reset years ago due to 'troubles', all companies/girls I've ever dealt with are long retired or moved on, so I'm basically facing 'newbie' status.  I get the girls need to stay safe, but it seems like the info they are asking for just to even get a time/date set up is pretty extensive.  I'm not planning on contacting anyone who's likely to be 100% rip like you'd worry about back in the day on Backpage or Craigslist, but even girls with a bit of history or reviews might have an 'off' day where they'd decide to make a buck.

Maybe it's just being worried over nothing, but how real is the threat of extortion?  A call to your work, post on your socials or call to the family (assuming you have one) vs some payoff.  I'm especially wary as it seems most want SOME of that info even before they confirm they'd have the date...so now someone has your info and you aren't even seeing them.

Any horror stories...again, not counting 100% ripoff agents I'd probably steer clear of from jump.  I'm only looking at Reviewed providers with at least a year's back reviews.  Or am I being paranoid?

As I'm sure you know the risk of extortion is never zero percent and there are many, many women who are trustworthy and professional.  But do your part to lessen the odds or a problem.  Don't send pictures or proof of identity such as a driver's license or employment information, and don't send a deposit unless you're convinced you can trust the lady.  Don't let the "We have a right to protect ourselves" faction of the community convince you to do anything you're not comfortable with.  Ladies and agencies do have a right to ask for whatever they want, just like you have the right to not provide personal information that could be used against you.

Thanks for the reply.  Yeah, I'm not as worried about losing a deposit as having my work called or something else happening.  I wouldn't even entertain the idea of a deposit till well into a conversation about a specific visit.  Again, I'm not even that worried about that with someone I'd end up seeing as (for my part at least) I'm sure a visit would go smoothly.  It's the info needed to even get to that point I'm leery on.

I've been going with my gut a while, as I've been sitting on the fence for a pretty long time.  Just trying to get over that last hump.....or get to the first 'hump' I guess.

The thing that sucks is I used to like the RS2K thing, but even looking at that or P411 now it seems like you are just short of sending a blood sample to get signed up.  And those companies are probably bigger targets for LE than a single provider who might or might NOT have your info.  I guess I was much more at ease in my youth...or just had less to lose, as it wasn't ever really a concern.

You’re being paranoid. Reputable providers have nothing to gain by exposing your info.

Thanks for the reply.  While you aren't 100% wrong, there is some saying about 'Just because you are paranoid, it doesn't mean they aren't after you'.

Maybe I'll just be lurking a bit longer.  No rush either.
