There is someone who can let you get away with it... Try tipping... It always helps.... few $$$ helps here and there if you do not have a computer.

I am one of these people who doesn't have a computer of my own, and am noticing that public facilities such as libraries have begun a massive crackdown on viewing so-called "explicit" photos such as those provided by most in the escort field. One library near me even goes as far as claiming that viewing such material constitutes sexual harassment. How can this be if the women are (1) of legal age and (2) obviously having consented to the photo? I wonder if they really got an attorney on their side to interpret things that way. There are some who claim that such a public facility denying viewing options to those who are of age to do so constitutes a violation of free speech. Hope someone here can sort this out for me.

The sexual harassment they refer to is...
of the other people in the library, not the people in the photo's being viewed.
If you are NOT in a 100% completely private room where nobody else can accidentally see what you are looking at, anyone who walks by... men, women, children might see what you are looking at and be made uncomfortable. This is construed as sexual harassment these days. Your right to view that material does not outweigh everyone else in a public setting's wish to NOT see it.

Also, notebook computers are dirt cheap these days. Buy one and stop looking at this stuff at the library.
It does not take much work to find a free wifi connection to borrow where you can be at least a bit more discreet.

But has such ever really been tested out in a court of law?

Yes, it has.

The Children's Internet Protection Act requires all public libraries and k-12 schools to filter explicit material.  It's a stipulation in order for these facilities to receive federal funding. The SCOTUS ruled on it in 2003.  Rehnquist wrote the opinion. Look it up. The law is constitutional.

Watch porn on your own time; quit making tax-payers fund your porn habits.

Get a computer, and stop filling your spank bank where children could potentially be.  Seriously.

The intelligence displayed on this board never ceases to amaze me.

Before I left my former firm and went out on my own, my SO would go to the public library to use their web access on days when we both drove in together. The computers were in groups of mini-cubes - you know, what we'd call "Study carols" in high school - and there was one guy who came in regularly and viewed porn. During the day. At the public library. Which was right across the street from the police station.

Yeah, he creeped her out. And a lot of other people too. They'd boot him out if someone complained, but only if someone complained.

I saw a guy watching porn on the library computer and filming it on his cell phone so he could watch it at home later.  That's what I call cheap.

Was always very careful not to do it when youngsters are around. And very seldom at that.

If not, that's fucked up!!!

Let me get this straight...  You surf porn and hookers in the library where children can be present.  You don't own a computer but you can afford an hooker.

One word.....  Creeeeeepy.

Lady's watch out for this one.  Very "Silence of the Lambish".  Let's hope he doesn't have a miniature poodle named Precious.

Thats my .02

Funded by tax dollars means they can't block anything, at least not legally. There's an old man at my library who occasionally looks at porn, despite kids being around. Nothing can be done about it.

Funded by federal money means subject to federal regulation. Please. Don't want federal money? Fine. No need to add filters to library computers.

Filters can be taken off of computers simply by asking for passwords. If you're so brash that you're willing to disclose your personal porn habits in a public forum, you shouldn't have a problem asking for the password.

As a tax-payer, I'm not interested in funding porn habits.

So what is your excuse for not using your smart phone to view your porn, ter, p411, etc. I am still confused why the library has to be used? I use my I-phone to answer emails, look at ter, p411 etc. Please correct me if I am wrong but the last time I checked smart phones have internet access

Today's day & age a tablet can do almost anything that a big computer does.   But libraries & other public places have always had some kind of restrictions, I'm a HS grad in the 2000's & I remember computers in facilities like above always had restrictions.

My nexus 7" tablet is awesome and it costs $200. It's nice to have something in my pants that's seven inches.
