I was going to ask some of the older hobbyists, because I consider myself a new-age hobbyist.  How did it work before cell phones and things of this nature.  Someone posted on the GD board............I couldnt believe it.  Was too slow, but WTH Ill ask anyway.  :-)

This is something that has racked my brain as well. How did this enterprise operate before TER, The Internet, smartphones, etc...? I'm curious to learn about how the business worked before the current age of technology that we live in today.

Once upon a time if you invented a cell phone or developed the Internet people thought you were a genius. Now you get credit for being a freakin' genius because you managed to survive without them! I am much too young to feel this damn old!

There used to be pay phones at every corner and hotel lobby. It's wasn't a big deal for a lady to say, call me when you get to the hotel lobby or restaurant across the street.

Im not a teenager.  I was well into adult-hood before cellphones came about.  I was just wondering how the hobby worked, not life in general.  There are some good answers though, I was just curious.

I wasn't around during the two cans and a string days but I do still distinctly remember having a pager and running ads in the backs of local alternative newspapers. It really wasn't that long ago...I'm only in my 30s.
