Starting my first tour next week and I was wondering if anyone might be able to recommend good restaurants or hotels in the Charlotte or Raleigh areas. Also, what places are on the must see list for any possible sight-seeing I can get in? Thanks in advance!!!

-Cheers

OMG , Raleigh is a haven for foodies.
However , mostly downtown.
The first suggestion would be Pooles.
I personally also love Garlands and Bolt.
Many....many more options !

But theres a lot of things to do depending on what you're into. Charlotte has some awesome restaurants as well. Again just depends on your tastes.

I'd suggest staying either downtown or in Southpark. Both will be convenient for clients and plenty of access to restaurants, Southpark has a nice mall. Also a Whole Foods if you're into keeping it organic lol

Come to Durham -- among the best food towns in the southeast and the nation, Durham is imminently walkable. Between DPAC, Central Park, Ninth Street, and Brightleaf, you can walk all over downtown in about 20-30 minutes. The food and bar scene is outstanding. It's also (and reasonable people can disagree) convenient to the rest of the Triangle via Durham Freeway, US 70, and I-40. I've got a list a mile long of places to go in Durham.

If you'd prefer to be in Raleigh, I like downtown around Moore Square, Cameron Village, and toward NCSU. While North Hills is convenient-ish I find it to be a bit bland and just like what you'd find in Atlanta or Charlotte (new high rises, national chains, vague gestures toward 'quirky urbanism') which is fine, but not really an example of a specific place. Downtown has The Pit, Trophy Brewing and Pizza (which is outstanding), Raleigh Beer Garden (among the best in the country), CAM Raleigh, and a lot of other options.

For sightseeing, Durham has Duke Gardens and the Nasher Museum of Art, a Bulls game at the stadium, a show at Beyu or Pinhook and any of a dozen other places. Raleigh has NCMA and its 140 acre sculpture garden (and just opened park expansion), and movies on Friday nights. Umstead Park for trail running or biking, and Oakwood/Saint Augustine's for beautiful classic neighborhood wanderings.

And that doesn't even get into that OTHER college town.

Got to throw in one of my area favorites ... The Angus Barn ... not a barn, but fine dining.

North Hills Town Center.  Vivace Great Northern Italian Restaraunts,  if you get there early 515-545, and it is cool enough, outdoor seating is available.

Also Firebirds is a Great Restaraunts,  great ribs, burgers and salads.

Five Points Area, Hayes Barton Pharmacy has a great lunch menu,  never eaten dinner there, but have heard nothing but good things

If you have a taste for Chinese, try the Red Dragon further down Fairview Roadnear the corner of Oberlin.  Best Chinese Restaraunts in Raleigh, hands down!  Great service too!

Cary, best bbq is City Barbeque on Kildaire Farms Road.  All sauces available so you can Taylor your food to Eastern Carolina vinegar based,  Memphis based, or Lexington BBQ.

Many many more, too numerous to mention.....Enjoy!
