I wonder if Boston will have a little bit of Las Vegas glam coming to it with today's announcement that Wynn is opening a casino here?

First the repeal ballot question (November) has to be defeated in order for construction to begin.

My guess is late 2015 before anything happens...

s it just me or does the drawing of the Wynn casino look a lot like the Mirage? Same oversized wings that give you shin splints if your in one of the end rooms. Same central core.

They say it may take up to four years to clean the site.

Nothing in the world can change that dump.

There is only one Vegas. Casinos are everywhere these days and although it may bring some money and jobs to the city it won't change it too much. It will remain a dump.

Hope they keep it near Wonderland and the Racetrack. Some talk of the border of Medford near Wellington. No thanks. I live in the area and don't want the traffic.

Sorry, the Revere proposal was not chosen, the proposal that would put the casino near Costco just north of Wellington Circle.

Sadly I believe the statistics support your post Camp.

Casinos provide low wage jobs for locals and high profits for casino executives and stockholders. Study after study has proved that crime and despair and gambling problems will increase and local business and especially restaurant and entertainment business will be adversely affected. The Casino in the Detroit area is perfect sampling of what to expect as those who can least afford to gamble are the most likely to lose money they don't have.
