Is there an appropriate amount of time to both book to allow
providers enough screening time and to not book so in advance you do not miss out on
a visiting provider?

Your thoughts if any?

Sometimes more, sometimes less is fine, but for comfort and planning and screening... 1 week. The less time a client leaves for planning ahead, the less likely it is that I will be free.

it very much depends on you and on the individual lady.

It also very much depends in my view if you want to arrange a long or short date. There is a lot to take into consideration when thinking on how to answer your question. To be honest you gave very little info

My booking depends on different things like my schedule, if she is local, touring, indie or agency, when I get the itch, etc..  Right now I'm booked with a lovely little lady over a week in advance and the anticipation is overwhelming!

I think the time needed for screening is different from person to person.  I've seen some that prefer 48 hours or do same day appointments.

I'm a little uncertain of your question though.  Are you asking about booking in advance with one provider (local for example) and missing out on a touring lady after you've booked the original date?
