It is TSA Pre-Check and here is a link to the TSA website for the pre-check program. My ex wife is a frequent business traveler and highly recommends it. $85 and some investment in time for the application and such gets you a 5-year membership that can make getting through airport security a lot easier. FYI - there are also similar programs available for international travel, like Global Entry, Sentri, Nexus, etc. Some of those, like Global Entry, combine the benefits of Global Entry for international travel and TSA pre-check for domestic travel. So if you do a lot of international travel, you may want to consider killing two birds with one stone via Global Entry since it basically includes TSA Pre-Check. Good luck!
Global Entry has to have customs; it would have to have to have an international terminal I believe. As said above, it takes about as long as getting your passport...actually longer.
Global entry is a pain in the ass. You have to schedule an interview months in advance and go to a place with customs. I had friends who flew to Baltimore, did the interview, caught a Sox game and came home.
I'm too lazy and don't fly enough. The not-so-global one can be done on shorter notice and in more places.
I have this too and find it very convenient. My cynical self though sees it as a means of getting your fingerprints into a federal database, as having your prints taken electronically is a requirement when applying for TSA Pre-check.
