I haven't gone but would like to.
I've never been either and it does sound like fun! I'll be moving to NYC soon and will try to track it down! I think you should take the plunge and try it! From my personal experience, the BDSM world is generally VERY conscious and respectful of limits and very welcoming.

In the bdsm community there is a similar acronym of sn/DC: sub naked/Dom Clothed. Being a Dom I like that arrangement a lot. Submissives are further subjugated.

I had been to parties that have the same kind of theme. Two great types were racially oriented parties where white people were naked and submissive and people of color were clothed and in charge and later parties where the racial roles were reversed. (I am really into both roles so I enjoyed each.) These were both (these were repeated at least twice; there were a total of 6 parties like this over about a 7 year period and I made four of them.) very very exciting. On entering, the submissive race undressed, each was formally collared, and each gave up control to the"master race". Safe words were --of necessity-- carefully observed and hard limits were written on paper by each member of the sub race and this was carefully noted for each member of the sub race.
Those were the days.
