In my lifetime, I've noticed a few trends in footwear but the platform heels fad has me perplexed.  

As a member of the KISS Army in my early youth, I understood that clown make-up clad rock demigods were required to wear them. I thought they were silly, but KISS is KISS. Platforms simply were... "Because" - an unknown fact you take on faith as Truth because someone in authority told you so.

Later, after my retirement (Thanks to "Dark Side of the Moon" and Jimi Hendrix), I noticed many short women, usually dancers at gentlemen's clubs, started wearing them. Seemed like Everyone wanted to be 5'5". Some needed more help than others  judging to the thickness of the soles - or so it appeared.  Then, almost as suddenly, Platforms went mainstream. Now I routinely see women of all kinds, even the really tall ones (5'9" or better), wearing these things as well.  

I'm not a fan. Flats, sandals, sneakers are just fine. I'm a bit of a "Simple Kind of Man".  So Platforms just look silly to me, like padded shoulders and most thickly padded push-up or water bras, but it's popular for a reason.  

Again, I'm not slamming, just stating an opinion and asking the questions:  
So why are Platforms so popular?  
What's wrong with being short or tall or average?

One day the bunions are going to kill them. If you like your feet, stay away from platform and 12 inch heels. Ladies, you look marvelous without them.

...I don't like them. Yes, sandals, sneakers, flats love'em. Really like barefooted when it's appropriate, sometimes when it's not. Low heels with jeans very sexy.

Gives you a slimmer/ tighter look....it's not just because they are short/little....that's not why usually....and they are easier to walk in then stilettos. It's not like you are tip toe-ing which can be very painful in time....
