I'm researching sushi in Atlanta (Buckhead area). Umi seems to get the best reviews, but one a bit further out also gets loads of good reviews- "The One Sushi"? Anyone familiar with these places? Any other recommendations? Also, anyone know of any raw vegan restaurants near Buckhead? How is Cafe Sunflower?

And any other recommendations for delicious food would be greatly appreciated. I love ethnic food and adore an exceptional steak occasionally too.

Thanks for any info!! xo

Terrilynn- I'll definitely have to try the Fez place- I adore Moroccan food! So it looks like Ra gets the vote on this board for sushi- thanks so much. I'll try that one. Making my list... :)

Another question if anyone's still listening- should one rent a car while in this area or is public transportation good in Atlanta? Having only passed through before long enough to eat at the Hard Rock Cafe, I am really not familiar with much about the city. (But I do have a guitar pin! lol!)

And any must-see sites, museums or botanical gardens?

Thanks so much!! You guys are awesome!

With regards to the tourist attractions - from your posts, the Georgia Aquarium and the Atlanta Botanical gardens may be pretty good bets.  High Museum is relatively small but can be an amusing afternoon.  Downtown or midtown hotels are pretty close to all of these.  Atlanta History Center (which my wife really likes) is in Buckhead.  Of course, there is always the MLK Center and the Jimmy Carter Library.

Public transportation is a reasonable option downtown, midtown and possibly Buckhead assuming you don't get much off the beaten path.  Not a great idea at night for an attractive woman traveling alone - but you probably knew that already.

Like any big city - most hotels can arrange for shuttle service to and from the airport and should be able to get you a cab to anywhere you want to go.  Public transportation is actually a better option than driving a car for the Georgia Aquarium and the High Museum and is reasonably possible for the Atlanta Botanical Gardens.   Less so for the Atlanta History Center.

Make sure you have a GPS if you have a car; Atlanta streets do not go in straight lines and many of them are named Peachtree..  Driving in Atlanta is no one's idea of a great time.    Renting a car at the airport and then parking it at your hotel is so expensive that a cab may be economical.   But a car may be necessary depending on where you are staying and where you want to go and whether you are on a time schedule

World Of Coke.   And Johnny's Hideaway after Hal's. Now... my place would not be bad.

if you're not familiar with zipcar, it might be something you could check out.. especially if your hotel doesn't offer free parking.  Just rent a car from a dedicated spot for X amount of time, when done, return it to that spot, and..no paying for a car on a continual basis, and no paying for parking of a rental car.  Take a look, if it works for you..go for it.  If not..nbd.

trail is almost worth renting a car for. I will see if I can fit that in. How far a drive would it be from Buckhead? And I'll be there mid-April. Will I be too late? One of my favorite things about England is the Valley Gardens at Virginia Water (photo below). The most amazing collection of azaleas and rhododendrons I've ever seen. Thank you for telling me about this! :)

The botanical gardens look fab, as do the MLK Center, history center, and the Carter Library. I may use Uber if it is an option in Buckhead. I'm not sure how much free time I will have, but there are so many cool things I didn't know existed! Thanks so much for these recommendations!! And for the heads-up on driving in Atlanta. Lol!! I'm sure parking is a nightmare- hadn't thought of that. Thank you!!

YUM!! Lol!! I've eaten at the one in Las Vegas, but had the churrasca. Endless spits of meat... but nothing beats the real thing in Brazil! Mmmmmm.... It's nice to know there's one in Buckhead. I've been meaning to get to the one in Orlando but just haven't made it yet. Lol! Someday. Thank you Lisa!
