over the last six months I have been looking to relocate myself to another part of the world, partially due to the tragic downturn in the markets and the stocks that I owned through option, were for companies that were in the financial industry.  well as you can guess, kiss that shit good bye.  but I still believe with my pension, social security, and savings I could have a pretty good life somewhere, but probably not here.  does anyone out there familiar with the phillapines, and what type of life an expat could find there.  a lot of words for a simple question, sorry.  along with the cost of living differential and the wonderful climate, right now chicago is home, I think there could be some advantages.  people are suppose to be real friendly, english is spoken in most places, and there are suppose to be tons of beautiful young "providers".......
any feedback would be so appreciated.

You spelled it wrong, but no big deal.  I lived in Asia for 5 years, including many, many trips to the Phils.  The short answer is that the Philippines could be the what you are looking for, but it depends upon your income, objectives and ability to adjust.  Feel free to PM me with specific questions you have.

Go visit the place before you decide.  Go for a month or so.  If you never lived abroad, don't expect usual American ways.  Electricity may go out often. Customs are different.  Buying customary things can be frustrating.  Important, if you take medication, make sure it's available there.  BTW No medicare.  However, medical care and Rx are much cheaper than here.  If you have a serious problem I'd hop a plane to LA & use medicare, if I had less time I'd go to Bangkok, it has a hospital with great care and doctors.  Open heart surgery. Excellent record was $17,000 own room own nurse and bed for a friend who goes with you.

Ex pats get together and often talk about how they miss home.  After appx. 3 months or so many people go through culture shock, not a lot of fun until you adjust your attitude.  Then your OK living out of the US.

A popular place now to retire where American men like the women and it's very cheap is Cambodia.

Good Hunting
