Burning Man...............red_smile

I have been asked by a close friend if I would be interested in attending Burning Man this summer with her and a few friends.
They have attended for the last few years and are really excited and into this event.

Having never been there, all I know about it is what I have read and what she has told me.
Books and pamphlets can give me an idea of what it is, but not what it "IS".
She can tell me, but, I would also like an "outsiders" perspective.

Has anyone here ever attended Burning Man and can offer some first hand, personal information about what to expect, what is expected, etc?

As I am continuing the process of moving into a new phase of my life, I find that there are many things I want to participate in and be a part of. But I'm very nervous about it, embarking into the "unknown" as it were, at 60 years old can be somewhat intimidating.......LOL

Any experiences or stories about this event will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

There are some older guys like us, too, from what I hear.

Every year some people post about it on the LA Board as it gets closer to the event.  I've never been, but if someone invited me I'd definitely go.  I think you need a veteran of Burning Man to tell you what you'll need to take in order to have the most fun- especially if you're there with a woman.

It is so much more commercial than in the original days. I have read many articles and saw a TV special on the event that made me feel it was a do before you die trip. Many people attend year after year but I believe it was mentioned last year there were thoughts of stopping the event for good. I'm not sure how true that info was.

Go Bob and get ready to party. It's a blast from everything I have heard from people that did go. Don't pack a suitcase unless it's body paint and colorful boxer shorts. It's hotter than hell where it's held. I remember seeing a picture of 2 young ladies naked in a little kiddie pool with campers and party people walking by not even paying them attention.

Google "burning Man festival" and you'll have an eyeful

but know nothing about it.  Would someone please enlighten me?

Basically, 20,000 people go out to the desert and let their inner freak come out for a few days.  You'll find lots of dust and dirt, the occasional recreational use of drugs, boobs, man ass, music and thousands of people dressed in whatever crazy costume they can throw together.

Like all these hippie-inspired events, there's something to excite or offend everybody.  Remember, it started as a beach party in San Francisco.

Check out the picture links- a few pictures should answer your questions.

Thanks for posting this link and i'm enjoying all of the info and pictures. I haven't started and been on the site for over an hour. The photography is amazing, the imagination the artists have is way beyond anything I have seen. It does bring you back to the more spiritual hippie movement of freedom and peace.
