First let me categorically state that your TER brethren have your best interest at heart and their advice is sincere and based on much experience. But I would caution you not to get so wrapped up in reviews to the point that you factor your own interests out of the equation. Part of the TER learning curve is understanding how to interpret reviews and relate them to your own expectations.

That has only one (favorable) TER review but it was written by a guy that has posted over a dozen reviews?

I've been around for awhile and if I know the hobbyists, or we've seen the same providers and scored them similarly I wouldn't hesitate. But as a newb, I'm not so sure I'd recommend you do like me.
So go see a provider who has reviews by veteran hobbyists. How many, you may ask, 4 or 5 would probably do the trick.  It's really important that your first time be a good experience.

a call about who to see. Newbies should always stay with well-reviewed providers.

There are plenty out there with more than one review.  Until you have some experience, stick to them.  I would have to do some serious research on her unless I personally knew the reviewer, or had seen some of the same ladies that he had, before I took the plunge on someone with just one review.

I don't care if Beefeater (he of too many reviews to list) was the one and only reviewer. I would not see a lady with only one review. In fact, I usually like to see a minimum of 5-8 very recent and current reviews (by hobbyists who have either written several reviews or are active on the discussion boards) before I feel comfortable in setting up an appointment. There are so many well reviewed ladies to choose from that I think its simply not worth taking a flier on a lady and in essence taking one for the proverbial team (and besides your teammates NEVER pay you back for a poor session)

Like if she were someone who posted a lot, and I got a feel for her that way/or we PMed back and forth.

Also, if a got a solid recomendation from someone I know and trust who either saw her, or from a provider I trust implicitly that also knows her well.

that I have a few years of hobby experience under by belt, I will see women with few reviews who have caught my eye through their posts and websites as long as I have another means of screening them ( yes, it works both ways. Reading  reviews, PM'ing reviewers or getting references from other gentlemen is our way of screening the providers).

I was thinking the same thing.  My demographic does not include many well reviewed providers.  I will TOFTT and when i do let others know by writing a review.  I am not suggesting you TOFTT but if you hang back and read and listen to the boards you will get a feel for what works and what brings up red flags. New talant and new customers are needed by both sides.
