Don't forget you have Hookers Resort on Lake Wisconsin.  (Name of the owner). It is a very nice restaurant & bar with a log cabin interior look. You can pick from a variety cuts of steak , or salmon & chicken  breast in the glass cooler then cook them yourself over the large charcoal grill in the dinning room. About 5 miles south of Portage off of Hey 51 then East on County Hwy V. If you Google Hookers Resort Poynette it will take you to there website.

I don't live far from that area. Plenty of outdoor activities to do if you are able to rent a car. The Dell's is only a half hour away, and offers many sightseeing opportunities. There is a decent Casino in the Dells.  Lake WI is not far, you could rent a canoe or Kayak and have a nice day on the water. You could also rent a pontoon boat or hire a guide to take you fishing. There are also numerous hiking trails and some nice parks within a half hour. If you rent a car, you could head into Madison which is twenty five minutes away. Madison is a awesome city with a young hip vibe. Many great restaurants around the Capital and every weekend lot's of stuff going on there.

wow, i am surprised to hear of so many things to do.  unfortunately, i dont want to get far from portage for an extended period of time.  there were complications that will keep me close to the hospital here, but hopefully before i leave to go back home, i will be able to check out madison, at least.  thanks for the tips!

in Baraboo is also a great exhibit for a half (or full) day.

If you are willing to drive about an hour, and are looking for weird, there is always The House On The Rock...

should i be afraid to look?  lol

i initially checked out air bnb as opposed to a hotel.  i found a nice property, all to myself.  a 3 br farmhouse...etc...i saw the pics and thought it was cute as hell, an it seemed relatively inexpensive.  i ended up leaving that idea in the dirt when i thought about being in a big, old house, in the middle of no where, all by myself, for 5+ nights?  oh hell no!  people in the movies die doing shit like that!  lmao

i decided that a hotel was good enough for me.
