it's *very* unlikely the javascript errors are native to geocities, for the simple reason that geocities is a subscription web hosting service, not a web page design service.
the errors are more likely flaws in the provider pages. they may occur because providers copy/use the same page template, or use the same shaggy ass web programmer.
it's highly unlikely the downloads will freeze up your ISP, that is, your modem port or modem software. they freeze up your web browser. if you're using a netscape before 5 or an explorer before 6, try getting into the 21st century.
if you're using an AOL browser, try getting a life.
i've noticed a different problem with geocities: the service puts a ceiling on the total amount of bytes that it ships out of a user's site in a fixed period of time (like, a month). porn sites exceed that limit because they are image intensive, so geocities automatically shuts them down.
girls, if you're using geocities for your web sites, try getting a life.
When I try to access providers' websites that are hosted by Geocities, I invariably get multiple Javascript errors and most times the download ends up stalling out partway through. In the former case, this is an irritation, in the latter case, I end up having to ctrl-alt-del because the stalled download freezes up my ISP. This has now happened to me on two different computers, so it is not machine dependent.
Anyone else have this problem? Anyone have any ideas? I don't want to bypass all of the sweet providers that use Geocities just because their websites stall me out! Thanks!

show you that I got your point. I enjoy reading your messages even though I don't always agree with them. Have fun with your exclusive engagements. Best wishes.
Yahoo groups offers up to 20 meg to anyone with a Yahoo Id and a bit of saavy. No need for HTML or javascript. Moderated/un-moderated can be chosen. And members can exhange/post messages and files.
They offer Adult coding and restrict/allow ordering prints of images. But frankly, it's not hard to crack into.
Yahoo owns geocities, but they're an entirely different company. Yahoo groups and yahoo photo's http://photos.yahoo.com/ are different divisions of Yahoo as well, but they're both more reliable and less trouble.
