why do it? It can be quite jarring if unexpected, and cause undue attention. I shouldn't have to remember to put my sound on mute when scanning for information.

But my question is - does anyone believe there is some advantage to adding music? Would a hobbyist on the bubble be more likely to book a session just because of the music?

I see no upside, but only potential downside to pissing off someone getting a roomful of unwanted music who then immediately leaves the page.

It fails to be discreet, which we are expected to be at all times.

Yeah, music on provider's website doesn't enhance the experience.  I know it's meant to set the mood.  If it's music that's annoying to me, it may actually be a turn-off. Was actually just on a website and I just hated the music so I didn't spend much time on it, even on the gallery.  I know it's strange, but can't explain it.   It may have triggered some subconsious thought of incompatibilty, i dunno.

If you're gonna put music on your site, maybe something mellow (no techno, metal, or *gasp* country)

No matter what music is present on a webpage, that page should have a very large ON/OFF switch. The default position should be off so that the viewer can choose to have music, if so desired.

I have left several pages of providers simply because I have been ambushed by unwanted, intrusive, loud music without visible warning.

The music you play on your website says a lot about who you are. You may be the world's best provider with 10's down the line. Everyone to his or her own choice of music, but if I hear any rap, or the crap that is prevalent today that is loud and you can't understand the words, then I'm not going to see you.

Now one of the locals has music that she created on her site, but she doesn't play it when you click on the site. There is a button to click, so if you want to check her site and listen to music SHE created, than feel free.

I'm also against the music. LOSE THE MUSIC. It can create a problem for the surfer trying to be discreet.

While I'm at it, LOSE all the FLASH and a lot of the fancy Java crap, too. It wastes bandwidth and, increasingly, can cause some systems to hang which can also create an uncomfortable situation if you're urgently trying to escape those pages and your computer doesn't respond.

When I'm surfing, I'm really not looking for someone with programming skills but with "other" skills.

I don't like it either. Don't want to go scrambling for the mute button when I may already be trying to be discrete...

Girls, ditch the music.  I hate it when I have to shut it off to concentrate on what I am there to look at.

He said he just LOVED the site and song, and could we leave it on during the session as it kept reepeating... lmao I agreed.... it was a compliment!

If you've read all the other responses, you'll see that guys (aka the paying customers) are largely opposed to the practice.  Yeah, there's some guy that likes it, but it's a distinct minority.

Seems the majority of hobbyists agree that music on a lady's site is a no-no.  I can completely appreciate where you're coming from as far as discretion goes.  I do have music on my site, but it's an interactive player and doesn't start automatically.  You may choose to listen or not - totally up to you.  Yes, it's FLASH (ugh, I know.  Some folks don't like flash either!) but I change the tunes around from time to time and always keep it pretty mellow and tasteful.  I've actually had guys tell me that they revisit my site just to see what's on the playlist and have it going in the background quite often - when wifey's not around, of course!

have an image of an iPod or Music Scale with 'Click here to enjoy music I find hot' text clearly situated on the front page. This then gives the viewer the option to turn it on and find out what moves you.

Best not to surprise people who may be clandestinely surfing the web with unanticipated music.

No one should indiscretely surf adult sites...  but some do & the music can cause problems.  These will definately click OFF your site within seconds.  I can't believe that is good for your business.
Music is very personal.  What some like, others do not.  Why risk turning off an otherwise interested client?

I hit a page yesterday with music...  you guessed it, I'm gone!
