email help

Hi,

I'm having a small problem.  Right now, I am using Onebox.com as my email server.  Unfortunately, they changed their format and now I hate it.  Does anyone have any suggestions for a good, secure email service?  It does not need to be free (I do not want pop-up ads).  I would like for it to have a vacation reply option.  I am looking at Ziplip.com and Hushmail.com.  How secure are these, and are there any others I should look at?  Please help!

Thanks ever so,
Scarlet Rose

Hi Scarlet,

While the other great gents on this board can only seem to drool over those photos (can you blame them?) I'll try to give you some valuable info (what little I have) to the questions you've asked that have gone unanswered.

I agree that since Onebox started charging and changed their format it isn't nearly as good. Hushmail.com was good but after they started paid memberships and cut their storage space in half I only recommend and like Ziplip!

It's secure, hides your ip address, and has a decent storage space.

I'd recommend them as the best --until they start charging of course.

I never understood the idea of anonymous email that you have to give your credit card number to use...

so ziplip best, and hushmail second choice.

Good luck, oh and remember--in the meantime Onebox doesn't hide your ip (if i am not mistaken)

it is too slow never Hot, and never Onebox for lots of reasons.
You get 5 MB free with Safe-mail.net with never a popup.
I upgraded to 50 MB for $30 per year because pics of Bonobos take up so much space. Six months with only one temporary crash.
Safe is totally offshore, not subject to US subpoenas from any ex-wives etc.

I do have a Ziplip account also as backup, but they have a major office in Mt View, CA, where they can be served with subpoenas.
Never underestimate LE.
In the Operation Flea Collar case the investigators used e-mails extensively from US-based e-companies, including credit card payment receipts to find the subjects.
If Zip e-mails are kept in the US, they may be accessible, although Zip says they try not to know who you are. That may not be enough.

Part of my professional activity is to recommend offshore aids to security, so I did carefully research this, and asked many others.

LS,

Thanks for the info on safe-mail. I wasn't familiar with that one myself.

Do you know if it hides your ip address when you use it to send mail?

Sometimes it's handy to say I'm stuck in say Cleveland when I'm really living it up in Vegas....

and let's just say that some people know to do a quick IP addy trace and I'm busted!

I looked around the safe-mail site but didn't see anything about ip addresses. I may have missed it....if you know that'd be great

Thanks

GD

I just wanted to say thanks to all – you have given me some good ideas. I did not realize I didn’t have a clue about the concept of all this.
