"Man of the House"

The top five, with their $K per screen numbers:

Born Into Brothels               3.0
Hitch: Cure for the Common Man   3.0
Diary of a Mad Black Woman       3.0
Bride and Prejudice              2.9
Million Dollar Baby              2.2

Top movie showing on less than 50 screens:

Downfall                         7.2

Turkey:

Man of the House     $0.9 per screen on 1903 screens

A film has to be out for at least three weeks to make the list to ensure that it has good word-of-mouth, and not just a splashy opening.

A film has to be showing on at least 50 screens to make the main list, so that it is reasonably accessible to nearly all TER readers.

The Turkey is the film with less than $1K/screen which is showing on the most screens.

My source for the numbers is rottentomatoes.com, my favorite movie review site.

I rarely plug a film on this list, but will say that Million Dollar Baby is a very fine film.

Quote:  "Directed by Zana Briski and Ross Kauffman, the award-winning documentary film shows the origins of our organization. “Feisty, courageous and wickedly funny, these
children of prostitutes embark on a transformational journey with photographer Zana Briski, who teaches them to photograph their own lives.” The film is an example of one individual’s ability to make a difference. Winner of the Audience Award at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival and more than 20 other awards."

"Born Into Brothels" is a story of human struggles... successes and failures.  A touching story of children born in the red light districts of Calcutta who are given cameras to record their daily lives.  Some of these kids want to make something of their lives and fly away from the nest, and yet others are resigned to their fate, unable to break the chains that bind them.

Filmed in Calcutta, this film recently won an Academy Award for Best Documentary.  A true-to-life charity has been formed to help these children get schooling and on a path to freedom.  The progress of the children can be tracked on www.bornintobrothels.com.  By purchasing prints on this website, you can make a difference in a child's life.  Proceeds go toward the school developed for these children.

Show locations and times are listed in the website.  The DVD is expected to be out mid-2005.
