This is all too true and not something that is confined to laws relating to the hobby.
It seems like there's a pattern. Laws are passed that are very broad. When objections of over-reaching are leveled, the argument is always that they 'give law enforcement tools that they need' to tackle a problem. The corollary being that LE will only use those laws against the target that the lawmakers intend, or at least those that they talked about when getting the legislation passed.
Of course, when it comes down to it, LE go after the easy targets and the DA prosecutes to the top of the legislation. It's a lot easier to prosecute the driver of a girl advertising on BP, than it is to route out a ring of traffickers importing girls from Eastern Europe.
The disconnect there never ceases to amaze me.

While I agree that pimps, underage girls and the abuse of any woman doing this against her will should be stopped and the punishement for those caught is not harsh enough..
I do worry about those single moms who moonlight, and are good moms and those that are above the age of 25 who enjoy what they do will be caught and judged amoung thier peers as being just as bad , unfit etc, etc..
A rare few choose to do this with an educated idea of just what we are getting into.. and some of those moms could lose thier kids, jobs and reputation in the community for doing what two consenting adults should be able to do...

My understanding of the law does not cover ladies who make the educated decision to do the providing.
This law covers the law breakers who are exploiting underaged girls who are forced into the sex slavery.
Two different things.
If you are the person who made that educated decision, then, you should be safe from the law. (assuming you live in Ohio or another state that has similar laws as this)

Traffickers should never see the light of day. The harm they do is life long. So should the punishment. By the way traffickers use every web site out there even TER. I can name at least two ladies basically trafficked or involved in trafficking sense I joined on TER. Sad thing trafficking is hard to prove without the victim speaking up and they are well programmed not too. This will not clean out anything but maybe if the scum is in jail they can't hurt new victims.

They showed the task force in a multi- state crack down of pimps!! This one pimp was arrested!! He claimed that he was not a pimp & didn't know what the two girls were doing when he dropped them off!! The next night ABC showed him getting arrested, AGAIN!! They should lock him up & throw away the key!!
If you KNOW a provider is working against her will, you should post it on ter at the least!
She feel very uneasy wearing necklace that are up against her neck because she was choked with a telephone cord. She hates to talk on the phone as both her parents and her pimp beat her for such. unless they (politicians) increase the budget for enforcement. Even if they have the money to increase LE budget significantly, I am not sure it's going to make that much difference. One can just look at the result of "War On Drug". IMHO, the problem will go away when there's no money. For my part, I will not pay for anything if I have any suspicion.

See Boston board about new law in Mass. To be used against anyone deriving income from "prositiution". Unfortunately escorts get dumped into this category. Most of the escorts I know are working moms making extra money to pay the mortgage, or buy a new car...etc. Nothing to do with trafficing.

Slavery is illegal. Kidnapping is illegal.
If gals who are being mistreated could really contact LE and protest their conditions, the "bad" trafficing would be reduced.
These laws have nothing to do with stopping trafficing and everything to do with LE going after soft targets like the gals we see as well as we hobbyists.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, it is defense in some places for the provider to claim she was "trafficked" as opposed willingly engaging in the activity--so be careful--know the law of your state--and do your best to avoid situations where this could become a problem.
Did the death penalty get rid of murder? Did the "conspiracy" laws get rid of drug traffickers? Did the "3 strikes" law make people stop committing felonies?
The lure of big money will always outweigh the consequences. There is always somebody new who thinks, "They'll never catch me".
