It's not a matter of looking down at others. Back in the day ( 30 years ago ) the porn people, strippers and hookers called the world outside of sex work "The Real World."

By majority, do you mean it's a material fact that gays are a majority in SF or the rest of the Bay Area? Or do you mean the majority of Americans accept gays as "normal?"
I stand corrected. Based on a Gallup poll it appears that as of 2012 a simple majority of Americans support gay marriage. The opposition is still very vocal in more conservative religious parts of the country.
