STI risk from receiving blowjob: what's the straight dope?confused_smile

Okay, here's the deal. I like the safe sex emphasis in the industry for vaginal/anal. But I don't know what to think about oral--specifically getting a BBBJ. It would seem the STI risk is low, but I just can't get a straight answer from internet research or even anecdotally. So I turn to you, the hobby community, and ask for your wisdom. What do you really KNOW about this? What CAN be known? Most providers are happy to give BBBJ and TER encourages this with their points system. But then I hear that gonorrhea can be contracted and is becoming resistant to antibiotics, that Syphilis is a risk, that Herpes 2 passes easily this way, etc. Mind you these are "medical" sites that say this, and everyone's got a bias. What I want to know is--what's the risk, really? The straight dope, from people in the field? Just from receiving a BBBJ, I mean? Like, are there any long-time hobbyists who can illuminate everything for me? Providers' feed-back would be greatly welcome also.

And if you have HSV-1, then you can't contract HSV-2 since it's the same virus. *HOWEVER* you can have HSV-1 show up on the genitals. Anyhow, HSV-2  (genital herpes) isn't worse than HSV-1. The only biggest difference between HSV-1 and HSV-2 if that the outbreaks for HSV-2 last longer than outbreaks from HSV-1.

Something to think about the next time you're getting your dick sucked and see a cold sore!

I don't. Always get tested for both (along with the usual suspects). Should I consider myself lucky? lol

of various STDs from various means of transmission (BBJ, intercourse, etc.)

In the past when people have brought this subject up, some kind soul with too much time on their hands was nice enough to find them and post them.

They are fairly ponderous, however.

The bottom line is that oral sex has significantly lower risk of STD transmission in general, but it still has some.   If this makes you uncomfortable, then do everything covered, or find another hobby altogether.

Do your own research and if anything doesn't make you comfortable, don't do it. I know most ladies won't object if you want a CBJ . Nothing worse than going into an encounter being uncomfortable.

I'm not super anxious about it, it's more of a situation of wanting to some consistent info, which is hard to get in my experience. With good info one can then make a "calculated risk assessment" and go from there. Even without oral and I enjoy my time with providers. (I have done it both ways.) It is obviously standard in the hobby to give or receive BBBJ, and frankly my sense is that most people don't get infected with anything and that providers are typically healthy. However, getting some feed-back from more experienced people than me was kind of the goal of my thread, especially to offset (hopefully) some of doom and gloom stuff you see on various supposedly neutral websites. Thanks for the replies so far, I'd love to hear more.

I have been in touch with several mongers over the last few years. All of us prefer BBBJ and have received many.
All I know is that, I get tested every 3 or 4 months and in the last three years, and all my tests have come back clean. And those mongers have said that their tests have been clean.

If I expected some real statistical numbers, I'd be SOL. I do think the odds are lower in the P4P arena. I just think that there are more players in this that take care of themselves compared to the civie or even swinger worlds. But, that's just an opinion.

Now, all this talk of BBBJ has gotten me horny again. It's been way  too long since I've had that pleasure. Time to find one of my favorite ports.

I just took an antibiotic to cure my second BBBJ transmitted infection in two years.  I am done with the hobby.  It's been good for many years, but it's now too dangerous with too many drug users out there and unscrupulous hobbyists.  Farewell TER and good look to you all.

If you stick your dick in the bottom of the sex barrel,  you are going to catch something Ajax can't wash off!! 15 minutes for 75 bucks? I guess you really do get what you pay for. Wtf....  You really think someone that's rolling 10 clients per day just to pay her rent is getting tested??? Probably not.
2 STDs in the past 2 years???? Another wtf?
I'm sorry but you can't blame the hobby for your stupid decsions.  I'm basing this on your reviews and booking drug users. You do know that if you walk in and a chic is fucked up on drugs, you do not have to stay. No fucking way!!! GTFOT!!! Definitely don't put your dick in there!
If your catching STDs like that then maybe this hobby isn't for you.  Goodness.... I feel really bad for you. Sorry you had to go through that!

Wait 3 months and get tested for everything.

Save your money and see highly reviewed girls that don't offer 15 - 30 min to anybody that call them up.

Probably have around 1000 hours hobby session time over the past 14 years.  BBBJ every time.  My dick has not fallen off yet, it still works fine.

..  it’s not rocket science.
Bbbj is nOt sAfe sex.
No matter how much you desire it, rationalize it, dice it up and try to put statistics behind it it’s not going to change the fact that it is considered on the risky behavior list.
It is up to you to decide just how much risk you’re willing to take.
I myself happily offer both.

Do mAny of us ladies wish we Didn’t have to keep our fingers crossed and hold our breath every check up ( low volume, high volume. high end and low) and as well, that it was not a near REQUIREMENT in order to substain our business?
In a simple word .. Yes.
Is it going to change? No.
If a lady says otherwise .. she’s lying.

... I can hear the boo’s already.  ..   and I’m OK with that.

there is NO absolute safety in this game.  So all you can do is decide what risk level you are comfortable with and accept the consequences.
And then STFU.

Shut up?  No.  It's obviously important to talk about these things in order to become informed and intelligently mitigate the potentials as much as possible.  Shut up?  That's really exactly the wrong thing to do.

Whether it's AIDS, hit by lightning, run over by a bus, or heart attack in the arms/mouth of a provider.  I'll be smiling because my dick was sucked off within the past week or less.

And if my doctor tells me I have AIDS, I plan to do some exciting things I thought were too risky in the past...like skydiving or kayaking over Niagra Falls.

The old "mongers" are the sort of "wise men" I was hoping to hear from, and it's good to hear they have not gotten infected too often if at all. Like I said, I'm happy to hear from providers, too. But for providers it's more risky I think if they do CIM, which I never ask my providers to do. (Just not that interested in that.) A clean, no-ejaculate BBBJ seems to be not so risky (for the guy anyway) in a population that gets regularly tested. Fine. I propose this terminology:

1) No Risk: kissing, etc.
2) No Known Risk: HIV through oral except rare cases of bleeding gums, cuts, with an HIV positive person, etc. (Still super rare)
3) Low Risk: lots of stuff having to do with oral, and maybe rimming
4) High Risk: uncovered vaginal and anal

The classification ain't perfect, and tweak it if you like. But within (2), I would add this: syphilis seems very rare among HETEROSEXUAL sex workers, and even in the gay population it isn't yet that common (though on the rise) and can be treated early effectively; and the only kind of scary thing you're really risking in our brave new world is getting gonorrhea through oral, specifically a strain that is resistant to all bacteria. That would really, really suck. But hey, you can reduce risk on the road by not driving. And that's more lethal by far.

Here's a fine read I recommend to all: it ought to be shared with newbies, too, imo: https://markmanson.net/std-guide

Good luck everyone. And wise men and wise women--keep adding to the thread if your personal experience over a long period can give us more testimony from the field. There ain't nothing like that.

*resistant to all antibiotics, not “bacteria” (!)

I read somewhere there's oral herpes that can transmit by kissing. Usually type 1. Type 2 usually from genitals.so there's always risk

Next someone will be asking about cover hj

And why do so many of you bash backpage providers? Aren’t we all in the same business? Is the girl on the corner somehow more of a hooker than someone advertising online? Isn’t she just doing what she can to survive?  For this kind of industry you’d think everyone would be more accepting.

I don't bash BP girls, though I also don't use that service.  And I have never gotten an STD from a hooker.  Or anyone else.

...... some, I said some very reliable and wonderful women advertise on BP, but are also verifiable here or P411 etc. But BP , is also the place where unverifiable sex workers advertise.
So, risks in many ways are greater. Just as responsible  sex workers screen their clients so do responsible mongers.
The thing is, that if there was a  sex worker spreading an STD and their only advertising was on BP, there would be no word about it.
On review type sites like this, warnings in the RO or PO might be discussed.

If you are concerned with the answer and being educated....for the love of baby Jesus, go to a Dr. and ask your questions. Anything else is just banter on a public forum. Sticking a cock in someone doesn't make these guys experts on sexual health. Just saying. Your mind will be at ease and you can have fun whatever way you see fit if you go and talk to a health specialist.

Maddy

Everyone, even doctors, have blindspots, biases, and their own agenda. Many health care providers are CYA types, for example, and paint direst scenario, others are—surprise!—not that well informed themselves. (I actually did see a doctor and asked questions, but she kept having to look shit up during the appointment!) So no, anecdotal evidence is not perfect, but it complements the rest. This whole area is not exact science, hard data in many cases doesn’t exist. Testimony can help.

. . . only safER sex. So It is YOU who have to decide what kind of risks are worth it to you.

If you want the science of it, check out the link, it breaks down which activities exposes you to which risks - and if you want anecdotes rather than tried and true statistics, then I don't know what to tell you. Folks on TER are going to be a very specific sample giving you answers, not the "unbiased" and "straight dope" you're looking for. Some folks hit a lottery, some folks don't. What you do with that information is up to you.

But hey for me: I enjoy sex, I offer only covered services for peace of my mind and all of my sexual partners. It works out great for me.
