TER General Board

Anyone seen Alexa?

I am a frequent poster and frequent reader. But I find the new site more difficult to use, harder to read, etc., etc., etc.  Even though I log in frequently, I am clicking less and hanging around less.  I am sure that TER monitors their traffic and has all the analyticals but does anybody else know how to monitor, assess and interpret traffic data?

Alexa is one service that some people use to rank websites and monitor traffic.

Without official,  unbiased digital statistics to compare TER pre-beta to TER post-beta, do you readers have any personal opinions to contribute? Are you here more or less? Longer or shorter? More clicks or fewer clicks?
.
EDIT: At the bottom of most pages are the current TER Stats: "1,429,343 Total Reviews, 5,813 New Reviews, 26,341 Users Online."  I haven't kept a running tally of "Users Online" but has anybody else noticed an uptick or downtick in that number?

I've have other interests and pursuits consuming more and more of my time.   Not to mention that after awhile the subjects and posts all start to be repetitive.

As for Alexa, I'm familiar with Alexa and other analytical tools related to website traffic and such.  Last year I found myself having to learn about a great many things dealing with websites, domains, etc.  Alexa was one such item.

Sure, there are some things I don't like about the new TER but I'll get used to it in time.  The reality is people get used to things as they are and hate change.  Any measure of traffic now won't be valid in one month, six months or a year.  My advice to people is just get used to it.

I'll agree with that, but "get used to it" doesn't mean returning to the old equilibrium values.  It means finding a new equilibrium (getting used to the new site) that could be higher or lower than before.  It is something that should be a concern to TER: more users, fewer users; more or less time spent on TER; more or fewer clicks; more etc. or less etc. ...
.
And it isn't just fonts and colors. It is following threads, readability [FIX THE DAMN PARAGRAPH BREAKS IN THE FORUMS!], site maneuverability, and much more.

I used to do search engine optimization, and Alexa wasn't considered a reliable tool for gauging traffic. Maybe things have changed, but I doubt it.

Alexa wasn't reliable because Alexa counted the number of people visiting a site who had the Alexa search bar on their browsers. It would be like Nike estimating the total number of people at a Beyonce' concert based upon the number of people at the concert wearing Nike shoes.

Alexa is still garbage, and always was.

The only way to really know would be to look at DNS request records, which your ISP is currently selling to the highest bidder. So the information is out there, it's just not cheap.

My time on TER beyond work related needs has taken a nose dive. I still pop on here and there but I like the communication on twitter better. Fast responses and I can hold conversations via dms or tweets with several people at once.

but I spend less time than say 6 months or a year ago.

Local and RO boards are dead and this one is often one attempt at a shitstorm after another. As far as ad boards, Indy prices seem to have gone up with out a corresponding increase in quality or quantity and I'm not into the Russian model de jour.

On the other hand, I am hobbying just as frequently or more. Just sticking close to a very few regulars and if I do get the urge to try someone new, this is still my best resource.
