Edit message, delete subject?

I don't remember encountering this in the past, so maybe I just bumped into a temporary glitch in the matrix.

I just went to edit a post for a typo. When I hit the edit post button, the subject line was deleted so I had to fill that in again. WTF??! I tried to refresh a couple times. I went back to the forum and tried again. I tried from both tree and flat.  I see no reason for your subject to be deleted because you want to edit the post. Can you please make it so that doesn't happen?

This reminds me of something I've been curious about as long as I've been here, but was not worth asking, except it may be related to this.

When replying to a post, sometimes the form opens with the subject pre-populated with RE: subject of post above, and sometimes it opens with a blank subject. I have not been able to find a pattern to this, it seems totally random. Anyone know what's up with that?

Old TER and new TER both had / have a problem deleting material between "quote" symbols in the subject line. Or maybe it is everything after a single " quote symbol. Either way, it's a STUPID glitch that they should fix.  Did your subject line have "quotes" or not?

I notice the same thing and don't know the pattern. In addition, when quoting for a reply, sometimes the OP's subject line is copied into the quoted section in the message body and sometimes it is not. I quoted YOUR post and the subject did not get copied into the message body automatically.
.
TER should just work on adapting / customizing highly developed, well maintained open source forum software.

I know impposter already mentioned it but anything in quotes gets deleted from the subject line. It's not a new problem. It has always been like that. I was hoping new TER would fix that but it didn't. You also lose emoticons when you edit. If you add one of the ready to use TER "feelings" emoticons to your subject line, when you edit they would disappear and you can't put it back. That has always been a weird glitch to me, and I'm not sure if it has been fixed in the new TER either. I haven't tried it. Of course now a lot of people are using emojis from their phones, tablets, or computers, and those aren't affected. It's just the TER emoticons.

I edited several of my posts today and I didn't lose any subject lines, (but none had quotes) so I don't think anything changed. It was either a temporary glitch you ran into or you had quotes.

The other issue of randomly populating the subject line when you reply to a post has always been a puzzle to me.,

Okay. Thanks for the info, both of you.

I had one word in quotes, and it deleted the whole subject line.

Good to know I'm not the only one puzzled about that.

I worded my first reply incorrectly. I should have said everything after an opening quote gets deleted, instead of anything in quotes gets deleted.

For example: let's say you have a subject line that says: "Quotes?" What do you mean by quotes? If you go to edit that, the subject line will be blank.

On the other hand if you type: What do you mean by "quotes?" Then if you edit that it will say: what do you mean by

Yeah, what I had going on was just like your first example there. The first character in the subject line was ". So it was totally blank in edit mode.

Good to know the reason, if you can call it that. Thanks again!

...drop-down with previous subject lines where you started it with ".  Then you simply click on the subject line that disappeared and it will be put into the subject line.  It happens to me all the time and sometimes I can't remember the exact wording of the subject line but I can recapture it if I just start with the ".

If I hadn't been lazy and used copy paste, I would've found that on my own.

Thanks!

[Edited once because I hit go when I didn't mean to, and again for testing purposes. It didn't work. I'm fucking it up, or it's a browser issue, or BP is full of BS. Meh, I don't think I'll encounter this often anyway.]
