Last Post chronology is not consistent or reliable

I think that many of us click on a board (e.g., General) and get the default Flat view which is supposed to be sorted according to the time of the Last Post in the right hand column. I have consistently noticed that the ordering frequently screwed up. E.g.,

33 minutes, 1 h, 1 h, 2 h, 2 h, *1 h*, 3 h, 3 h ... Note the "1 h ago" post  that is out of sequence.

yesterday, 2 d, 2 d, 3 d, 3 d, *2 d*, 3 d, 4 d, ... Note the "2 d ago" post that is out of sequence.

Does anyone else notice that (not just on General, but on all the boards I follow).

Is it really that hard to program a chronological sorting feature?

TER does a lot of moderating of posts, including random moderation.

On the last TER, the time of a post was by when the sender sent the post, but it may be that with the update TER now tags the time as when it was sent, but cues it in by when they released the post, thus causing the temporal problem that you mention.

Just a hunch.

I usually log in at least 2x per day (24 hours). When I click on a Discussion Board, I get the flat view with a, presumably, chronological sort based on the most recent reply:
.
Subject Posts Views Last Post
This         24      512     by Him 10 minutes ago
That        11       123     by Her 1 hour ago
Ketchup  57       678    by Heinz 6 hours ago
.
I usually click on the most recent post to go to that section of the thread.  Yet, I know that I am missing out on recent posts.  But then I also notice that some "NEW" posts show up marked as "yesterday" which I know cannot be right.
.
Upon scanning the flat lists of recent posts to a number of discussion boards, I do not see a single post labeled in hours with more than 15 hours ("by clocky 15 hours ago") and there are very few of those. It looks like a post becomes "yesterday" after only 12-15 hours.
.
Since I log in daily or more, I don't bother clicking on posts older than yesterday or # days ago. BUT, BECAUSE OF THE BROKEN CLOCK, I AM MISSING RECENT POSTS which makes it hard to follow some threads ... and reply to posts in a timely fashion.
.
BRING BACK THE OLD METHOD OF DATE STAMPING POSTS!

(or something like that)
.
AND ADD A "Last logged in" popup when I log in so I know, with a timestamp, when I last logged in!
.
Thank you.
