So perhaps it was the approach you used (I hope you didn't make the language obvious). Just mention hanging out for lunch etc..and make a reasonable offer, nothing insultingly low and that should work.

It depends. Because realistically if they're getting $800-$1000 per scene then that should be fine to offer, but for off camera bookings the standard is usually $1200 on up.
So they're used to that and might only respond to that.
Also I'm not sure what you mentioned in addition to that, but if it was just generic hanging out then the no response was probably due to the amount offered.
