Liberal institution of higher learning comes to the realization that laws of economics are for real.

Of course the poor are especially hit hard by a minimum wage increase, much to the shock of the know nothing anti-business crowd.

Who could have predicted this? lol

...deceptive with your subject line (trying to play the pure partisan) when examination of the entire article shows that the study itself has some ambiguities & even the authors are unsure of all it's meanings. But just keep on trashing those low wage workers, it must feel good to step on lesser skilled people so you can pay a few cents less at your local Burger King.

If you really don't understand why businesses cant pay unskilled labor $15/ hour as a min wage, there really isn't much I am going to tell you to make you understand it.

The stunning thing about this study is that it was done by libs and paid for by libs.

And I wasn't "trashing low wage workers." I blame the imbecilic lib media, unions and anti-capitalist groups who push this nonsense on those people.

Raising the min wage, especially to this degree, hurts the very same people liberals claim to care for so much; the working poor. It makes them MUCH less employable, Huck.

Give it some thought.

...Please tell us if there is actual  lower skill work to be done why it hurt's workers to pay them a fair wage to do it, can you even imagine trying to live on the current minimum wage ? after paying rent & bus fare these workers can't even afford to pay a phone bill or an internet connection let alone heath insurance. And I think it's disrespectfully Trashing them not to pay them a fair wage for their work. Just try putting yourself in their place.

The min wage was never meant to be a "living wage" or whatever the term du jour the left uses these days to play on people's guilt.

It was designed to be an entry level wage. Min wage employees are a disasters when they first start. They don't have experience, they don't know the basics of holding a job, don't know how to work as a team and they need a lot of hand holding.

Now thats all ok, IF I am getting all those headaches at a discount.

But if the government is going to mandate a ridic high rate, I will shift some of the work to salaried employees (so I won't need to hire the poor) or I'll lay off (again not good for the workers we are discussing) or I will be forced to close my doors (obviously bad for all).

And if everything does somehow work out, and I am still able to stay in business, the higher wage will increase the available employee pool to me. Makes sense, right?

So how do you think those with little to no experience will make out if I have lots of people with experience that would jump at the chance to flip burgers for $15/hr?

The $15/hour deal was always a disaster. Even Obama knew that as he wanted to go with a $10/hr min wage and didnt manage to do it even with him holding both houses of congress with a filibuster proof senate.

...meant to be a livable wage than what do you expect the people working full time at retail stores, or fast food or cleaning your office at night,or any other of the menial job, if not a living wage is it a dying wage. You right wingers really are attacking the wrong end of the wage chain when high paid executives make thousands of times what their workers make in a year & spend 1/2 of that time playing golf, it takes a really big person to attack lower skilled workers just because he is too cheap to pay them a few more bucks an hour or his burger king bill might go up a few cents.

Have you?

You are displaying your total ignorance as to why executive level positions exist.

...an uninformed comment, I spent nearly 20 years as an employee starting with a clean-up job @ $1.20 an hour & more than 16 years as a successful employer. I know labor & management from both ends of the spectrum & I understand executive decision making better than your comments show that you do. Getting the best performance from employees on the job requires that they want to do the work they are assigned & lower wages takes their mind away from that. I really don't like the idea of government mandated wages but unfair wage levels by employers seems to make that necessary.

AI could get my order right more times than a person.

Main stream media is pushing for AI, why would be concerned over min wage jobs. They are about to be extinct?

Two decades from now AI doctors could be performing surgeries.

The operative word is "originally". You could almost point to Ray Kroc as creating the part-time employee making the minimum wage. Teenager or early 20s kid working part time in fast food or retail to make a few bucks and learn some skills. Unfortunately today we have a fairly large segment of society that lack skills or education, and work full-time in fast food, retail, or other minimum wage jobs.

We can blame a lot of different people and groups for this issue. Parents, public schools, unions, government, the list goes on. You have compassion like most liberals and want to ensure these people have a livable wage, whatever that means, but understand if you raise the minimum wage to say $15, there will be consequences irrespective of mean old executives playing golf 50% of the time.

All that aside, I believe liberals generally respect Warren Buffett. Maybe it's because Buffett and Obama had a relationship. Maybe it's because Buffett is a registered Democrat. Nevertheless, even Buffett believes raising the minimum wage will hurt this large segment of the population by reducing employment. His idea is to expand the Earned Income Tax Credit. You file a tax return, and you get a check from the government. It rewards work, it does not distort market forces, and maximizing employment.

Just Google Buffett and the minimum wage before you continue the liberal mantra of rich people are mean.

...If the rest of you reactionary righties weren't longing for the good old days of "The Jungle," maybe others would try it.

Not many people make close to $40 an hour. That's why most people are the working poor.

Democrats can jerk me off with that $15 an hour.

Is anyone realistic?
