Social Media Propaganda influenced our election

I brought this up in a Joe Rogan podcast recently and nobody was interested in discussing it at the time.  Now I have seen on the Daily Show coverage of the lawyers for Facebook that took money from foreign governments for advertisement on the biggest social media giant Facebook.  One of the pages even had 1.5 million likes by Americans.

How can we blame American citizens for not knowing the truth.  Some of this stuff that spread was never fact checked or Googled.

Thoughts anyone on how to keep propaganda out from foreign governments.  I personally believe Facebook is the devil.  I rarely use unless looking up a name as part of hiring tool in my S corp.

would have made a fine president.  Yes I accept my responsibility for my part of the blame.  I wasn't bothered too bad about the email scandal and investigation and recognized it was smoke and mirrors.  What bothered me about her was the abandonment of Americans and an ambassador.  She is most definitely qualified for the job.  She has shown with her head injury and rest that she is going to come back.  Would I vote for her if there was a next time.  IDK  Will I allow myself to be exposed to so much negativity, division and hatred spread?  probably not.

I want to be an entertainer.
Love,
Maddie

So no one is wishing you any harm on here.
It was your own vote for Trump, that is harming this country!
Just stop acting like a victim because your choice did this to yourself.

You promoted Trumps lies a year ago and now you are changing your tune.

It must be something with Trump's cult training and these former or current Trump supporters.
So FM stfu earlier this week is a threat and now exposing Madison Trump comments is wishing her harm???

The bs responses on here are crazy and sound foolish.

...you must condemn the actions of any of the voters who were fooled by the Trump/Putin on-slaught of social media lies & deceptions, this is exactly why I never trust what is sent on social media, too many people believe that what ever is written is automatically true, I believe many are finding out that tweets are for the birds.

the approximately 35% of this country who still supports this piece of dung?

...Mass hysteria, foolish stupidity, believing gossip, unfounded fears, bigoted racism,  does that cover it ?

Wrong question! The question is, how can we not blame American citizens for believing untruths, when they choose to believe them because they want to believe them? Too many people choose to read what they want to believe, not what the truth is. Trump supporters love to hate Hillary, and want to believe the worst about her, so no wonder, when Trump is getting cornered on the Russian investigation, he brings up Hillary. Notice the difference between "consistently liberal" vs. "consistently conservative," regarding the breath of news sources. Back in 2014, 47% of "consistent conservative name one source for getting their news, Fox. While, 50% of "consistent liberals" listed 4 sources. If one wants to know the truth, they must be willing to have their beliefs challenged. This doesn't happen if one relies on news sources spouting what one wants to believe. We citizens need to be less lazy, and take a greater interest in our politics. Visit some European countries, or places like Japan. They keep a keen eye on all the political developments. Oh, by the way. Trust in our leadership, in South Korea was in the mid-80's in 2015; today it's around 15%. In Japan, it was in the mid-70's; today it's in the mid-20's. Hmmm! I wonder what is the difference. Oh yeh, Obama vs. Trump.

P.S. If someone wanted to know the truth about Trump, all they had to do is read the history. You know the Aesop's tale of the Scorpion and the Frog he so loves to tell regarding Muslims? Well he was giving everyone a hint that he is the scorpion! He was never going to change! And, anyone who knew his history, and knew human nature, knew that also.

the internet was never objective. With increased bandwidth and the sheer amount of users the problem of misinformation, bias and opinion has increased exponentially throughout the web. Even traditional news outlets like newspapers and television broadcast have been influenced negatively. There is no distinction between opinion journalism and objective reporting anymore. It's now up to the viewer or reader to sift through the information to find the truth and be objective.

what you need to do is take your own advice.  Because the tripe you post is exactly what you correctly say is the problem. You put up opinion as fact, fake news, propaganda and unmitigated garbage.
But thanks for stating the problem correctly, even if you have no clue how to use your own advice.

internet users are Russian trolls.  Do you believe that is why some online news sources cut off the comments section to better engage the audience?

Thanks

there are many Russian hackers and scammers trolling the dark web. Perhaps online news outlets are affected by them as well. Most likely they did not like the responses they were getting and were losing viewers/hits due to the negativity in their comments section.

Interestingly, 7 out of 10 Americans use social media with the majority of users between 18-29.  SM is a massive platform that has transformed politics forever.

...Yes social media has transformed politics & and many other aspects of our lives forever, kinda like filling a cars transmission with sand & expecting it to still work.

Spend most of their daily lives on Social Media. No thinkng about doing any  research to find any truth or fact for themselves.

Many vote for Trump because they found  the "shit" he was talking to be  entertaining ,and that the bigotry and xenophobia will give them some sort of advantage  (without having to earn it by going to school or taking other progressive actions ) as it did before Cvil Rights and diversity.
