I noticed while reading this LA Times piece that it said:
"President Obama pledged not to forsake or forget Haiti" and that "to that end, the administration immediately sent military assistance".
Does anyone find it a little fucking vile, if not Orwellian to put the word "assistance" after the word "military"?
Not that the boys in camo can't help someone out if need be, but given this tiny little nation, the poorest in the Western Hemisphere, has seen it's government fucking OVERTHROWN by the United States TWICE in the last 20 years, you'd think that no one in Haiti would see the US military as providing anything remotely resembling "assistance".
I hardly think a little help to them would hardly classify as "spoiling them". That's like a rapist offering his victim a glass of water in between assults and suggesting she'd be unappreciative.
Instead of offering a few thousand Haitians the great privilege to float on a piece of wood in hope of reaching beach front property in Florida, how about we instead just stop fucking them over?
