This whole thing is stupid. The recreation is consistent with the skin tone of the sculpture busts of Nefertiti and with the frieze representations Egyptians made of themselves. They were quite aware of different races, and showed pale Semites and Hittites and Libyans, reddish brown with fine features for themselves (like the recreation and the busts) and dark brown/ black with large lips and broad flat noses for Nubian blacks. I saw an Egyptian sculpture bust of a Nubian in the Boston Museum of Fine Art that looks a lot like a Sambo and Mammy figurine on sale in rural Georgia, big red lips, jet black skin and all. Perhaps in the Slave south, where a 7/8 European 1/8 sub-Saharan African slave was considered "black" by the one drop rule, Egyptians are "black" by virtue not being Scotsmen. But Egyptians were neither northern European, nor sub-Saharan African, surprise surprise, not being either in North Europe nor Sub-Saharan Africa.

As usual with We Wuz Kangs types, you believe that Africa is a racially homogeneous continent. North Africa is still, and always was a distinct demographic zone from Sub-Saharan Africa. The Sahara was a harder boundary to human movement than the Mediterranean for most of history. The source of slaves for the Muslim Middle East, and the Atlantic Slave trade was Sub-Saharan West Africa, where the Bantu peoples have the characteristics we think of as "African" -very dark skin, broad noses with large nostrils, tightly curled wooly hair, large lips, pale undersides to their feet and hands. But because those people are who we generally mean by "African" in the US context does not mean anyone from Africa was "black" ie Sub-Saharan west African, racially. The people of North Africa are and were a hybrid clinal zone people, but modern DNA shows them to be broadly part of the Caucasian group (not "white" European, as that group included Berbers, Arabs, Persians etc).
Yes, Upper Egypt and Lower Egypt had wars and traded rule back and forth, and the Lower Egypt/ Nubian rulers have what we think of as "Black" features, as shown in some of the art and sculpture. But the vast majority of Egyptian art clearly shows them as reddish/ yellow skinned (as opposed to white skinned Libyans and Hittites) and black skinned Nubians, with different hair and noses and lips than the Nubians. Modern DNA analysis shows modern Egyptians, who do not look black, have MORE Sub-Saharan/ Bantu genetic background than historic samples from corpses from the Pre-Alexandrian conquest period.

I learn with blacks, they only help other blacks.
Second story, I'm at a meeting with Federal agencies. About fifteen people in the room, talking about minority awareness. I get cut off by an older black man three times, as I'm talking. The entire room turns to him whenever he talks. I'm not a minority, he is the minority. The only saving grace was a young black man, about the same age as me at the time. He sees what is going on, and gives me a look and a head nod. At least acknowledging what is happening. I get up and leave, because this is a dog and pony show. I lean over to shake the guys hand and say thanks. He apologizes, I say no worries, and walk out.

She may have been considered "black" in the slave South, where mostly northern European Maria Carey would have been considered black as well.
