...I am very understanding of hunting of animals to control their over population or hunting animals for food, but killing an animal so you can have it's body parts preserved & mounted for display seems barbaric, why not just go out & shoot a Grayhound  bus & use the headlights & grill to mount on your wall. With the typical ambush tactic & a rifle with a scope that allows an accurate shot from nearly a mile away this kind of hunting hardly qualifies as sport.

When a trophy hunter pays to take those animals the meat is given to local tribes . Often members of those tribes are paid to help in the hunt either as guides or funnel men.  

I am not a trophy hunter . It's never been my thing . Some people are though and it's not up to me or the US Government to tell an American citizen otherwise.  

 I've been to Tsavo Wildlife refuge and I've seen the orphaned elephants who's mothers were killed for their ivory . It's not the same thing and helping the Kenyan government control it is good . The poachers try and say they're just feeding their family . That may have been the case years ago but it has morphed into a more synister thing because the terrorists are now in the poaching buisness .
