Maybe I'm generalizing, but it seems like Creationists = Christian conservatives = the "drill, baby, drill" crowd. Likewise, the Evolutionistas = Liberal secular humanists = the "save the whales" folks.
If God created all creatures great and small, why don't Creationist conservatives give a damn about the snail darter, spotted owl and now the sand dune lizard which may halt oil drilling in parts of Texas if declared an endangered species. Aren't we supposed to be the stewards of the Earth?
Maybe God put all the pieces on Earth for Man to solve this giant cosmic jigsaw puzzle. Maybe the dodo bird's gall bladder could have cured cancer. We'll never know. If the sand dune lizard goes extinct, maybe we'll lose the cure for Parkinson's or Alzheimer's. After all, the Pacific yew tree was found to have a cancer drug - paclitaxel.
Maybe God is sitting somewhere shaking his head saying: "What fools these mortals be."

I think my opinions on both subjects are well known around here.
I am obviously in the "drill baby drill" crowd, especially since I actually own an oil company myself, and my disdain for religion is equally as well known, any doubts that you have can easily be eased by reading the exchange I had with mrnottrouble earlier today.
So, in my case at least, your theory comes up empty.
