I wish callers would leave a message

I get calls sometimes and the person doesn't leave a message.  I suppose this could mean they wanted a same day appointment or maybe they are being extra discreet and wish not to leave a message.  I don't return these calls because I have no way of knowing if it is ok to contact the person.  If I did call, it's quite possible they could be in the position where they are unable to talk (wife is around, they're in a meeting at work, etc.)  I'm very good about returning calls and answering my phone.  However, I do have certain times when I am unable to take calls and therefore have to rely on my voicemail.

or send an email.

I'd say over half the time I get no reply, and I never ever leave an explicit message... usually somthing like "I'd really like to meet you" or "Available for a lunch time meeting?"

I've concluded many ladies are not seeing new clients, but leaving up ads so the known ones can find them....

I can't speak for anyone else, however, anyone who leaves me a message would receive a call back - as long as the message is professional and courteous.

Many new guys haven't figured out the dance of seceure communication.  I think e-mail is best, followed by a hobby phone...  guys, you do need to speak!  You need to give the lady the ok to return your message, a time to call back or this e-mail is private.
New guys get found out all the time by carelessness.  I thank the ladies for their discretion.

and my first contact is a voicemail system that I have used for 20 years. I don't have a direct contact number but return a call once I have heard the gentlemens message.

I have clearly stated this in my voicemail message. Please leave name, phonenumber, best times to call, can I leave a message if you don't pick up and where did you find me. Many just leave a number and no name.. Those I don't return.. I do have caller ID and many times there's no message either so I figure just another heavy breather.

Ladies are busy and aren't sitting waiting for the phone to ring so please leave a message and do let her know the best times to call. She may have work and family obligations herself.

Funny this subject came up today as I have had the same number calling me since Tuesday (today being Friday).  Who ever it is called 5 times Tuesday, 4 times Wednesday, 5 times Thursday and since 8:04 am today, they have called 4 times.  Never once leaving a message and a few times calling 5-7 minutes from the last time they called.

Based on that, I have made my decision NOT to see who ever it is who is calling...even if they DO leave a message.

Well speak of the devil.  My phone is ringing as I am typing this..lol

Gheez...some people will never get it!

not a call center, therefore a call will not always lead to a live person.  The responses to this post inspired me to change my voice greeting to state "please leave an appropriate time to return your call." I want the initial contact process to go as smooth as possible for myself and potential clients.

so I don't give my number out unless I have an appointment scheduled.  Everything before is email.  I also don't answer my phone much; I'm usually in the library and have the ringer off!

Maybe you could say something funny like, "Please leave your name, number, and what time I can contact you.  Alternatively, you're welcome to breathe heavily into the phone for 30 seconds before hanging up.  Have a great day!"

Although I prefer email for 1st contact, I have no problem using my hobby phone for phone calls.  I may have to specify a narrow call back window, but I turn the be off if I don't want to be contacted at inopportune times.

I recently tried to set up with a provider who does not use email and a man answered the phone.  That scared me off.
