Sometimes I notice many long time providers'
websites disappear for a specific time period
and come back months later. Does this mean
they are only part timers in the hobby or do
they fear Law Enforcement is on their trail?
It seems that it may be difficult to establish
long term relationships with their friends if
they disappear without notice from the internet.
I don't know exactly what you mean by 'many', but it is not unusual to see a website disappear for awhile. This could be for a variety of reasons, but their friends would know where to find them without the internet.
Could be a number of reasons,including those that you mentioned.

It's the latter most of the time. Unless you consider the ones that are leaving the business long term.
Many ladies will stop taking appointments when they meet a personal lover with whom they would like to try creating a meaningful relationship.
There are many reasons.
As to it being difficult to form long term relationships - not at all. Those gents who have known me for years are the least likely to need to go to my website to contact me.
