All the ranters going off about Imus needing to get fired should take a step back and think. Do you think Shaq (on the Miami Heat) should be kicked out of the NBA for his racist comments about Asians (Yao)? If you say "no", ask yourself why not? Because he's black? Because the victims of his comment are Asians (who don't have as much influence in this country)?
Its just interesting how some people have no problem dishing it out, but can't take it as well.
How about the time Reggie White went off in front of the Wisconsin Legislature about Asians, Hispanics , etc.?
He said something like "Hispanics are family-oriented because they have dozens of kids and they all live in the same room togther" and " Asians are technically oriented - they can take a wristwatch and camera and make a TV out of them".
The comparisons between the racist remarks that Imus made and rappers and hip hop culture are pathetic simply invalid.
The point that so many have forgotten is that when Imus used the phrase "nappy headed ho's" he was speaking SPECIFICALLY about 10 innocent, educated young ladies on the Rutgers basketball team.
In rap music ....rappers rarely if ever have used the term Ho's when speaking about a specific individual or group. It is not a PERSONAL attack. Forget the fact that none of these rappers have ever gone on a nationally syndicated radio show that is aired live on a morning TV show and called anyone a "ho".
The idea that Imus even referenced the fact that the term Ho's may have originated in the black community. Speaks volumes on the sincerity of his apology.
For all of you that think a simple apology is justice. Try this...... Imagine if Imus had called your daughter or wife a ugly whore on national TV. Without any provocation.....
