Greetings Minnesota Board,
I wanted to reach out for some advice, if anyone could recommend a provide for corporate black tie and other social events. I'm new to the area and have to attend a number of corporate events and I'm looking for the right companion. The difficulty I'm running into and I'm totally upfront about; is I'm African-American. I'm able to provide references but it still seems to be a sticking point, which is fine. I'm also upfront that I attend all types of corporate events while most have the typical corporate america setting, some of the charity events I speak at can be predominantly African-American. I've done the typical searching and have actually had great conversations with providers but understand what I'm asking is not the norm. If anyone has an provider recommendations that would be greatly appreciated, either reply to the thread or send me a PM. I'm open to all ages and races, I'm more concerned about making the right connection and meeting someone that enjoys and understands social events. Thank you P.S. I will also address the normal question, no I'm not a thug or a pimp...lolSince this seems like PR, what sort of effect are you looking for. Do you want impressive arm candy? Or do you want someone who might match you (to good effect) in the real world. A favorable real world match would pair big with big, thin with thin, attractive with attractive, plain with plain. Arm candy, of course, the sky is the limit.
The challenge that you're going to face here is someone who knows how to dress with taste and class. Most importantly, you have to find someone who is a compliment and not a distraction.

I agree that is the biggest challenge which is why I turned to the board for suggestions. A previous poster asked if I was only looking for arm candy, I'm less worried about looks and more concerned with making the proper connection for the situation.
First and foremost, welcome to the area! I'm sure it is a definite change of pace compared to what you are used to. While the winters can be brutal, it's a great place to live. So much so, I'm considering moving back to the Twin Cities.
Also, I can say that as a woman of color (I'm multiracial), it is rather discomforting and disheartening when a person's race/colour is a determining factor to assess compatibility/attractiveness. However, such is life and typically it's easier to keep it pushing and move on.
As someone who works in the corporate world during the day, I understand the need to have a companion at your side for some events. And not just a companion that looks appropriate, but one that actually complements your personality and can help you shine.
