As the fiancee of a transgender FTM (female to male, pre op), i would like to point out that while you may think that transgender people are "encouraged" to come out and accepted, you are wrong. Yes there are places that are accepting and "gay friendly", but the majority of areas are still extremely hateful. Bathroom policies, feminists screaming that trans-women arent women, certain stores trying to make it legal to turn away gay people in general, sexual assault issues, parents disowning their kids for being transgender, etc., don't really display encouragement. Its not necessarily that they aren't being honest with themselves, because trust me when i say they want nothing more... But it also isnt entirely safe or welcoming for them yet.
