I've heard that HSV is very common in this hobby. Can someone enlighten us on this subject?

If you "heard" there's a problem. Please enlighten us to where or how you obtained the information.

I heard it on radio news discussions while driving, but they point to articles which use language like this:
"Exposure is extremely common. People with multiple sex partners are at even greater risk.

that is some seriously jumping to conclusions.

...estimated that anywhere from 50% to 90% of the population carries the virus.

I agree, quite a leap to say  it's any higher in the hobby than out based on that info. Hardly a factual survey. Funnily I have had a couple of real life G/Fs (BTW both were married) in the last 2 years and both of them had small HSV1 breakouts whereas I have only seen 1 out of nearly 100 pros have a breakout when I saw her. By breakout I mean a small cold sore. Myself my Dr. is amazed that I always test 100% clean.
