All I can find at find law is that its a misdemeanor. Anyone know how to determine the possible/ probable sentances.

... of a year (sometimes less) in county jail, as opposed to prison.  If you're planning on getting busted, ASK A LAS VEGAS CRIMINAL DEFENSE ATTORNEY.

Frequently sentencing is indeterminate, i.e., it varies as to whether the defendant is a first, second or more offender.  In CA second convictions carry 45 or 90 days I forget which.

Typically, a first offense is a fine and probation unless it's close to election time.

Stepped up enforcement around election time is nothing more than an urban legend.  Anyone involved with the criminal justice system would know that and not make such a stupid statement.

Really?

Thus, were you a DA, running for re-election, you would not prosecute higher visibility prostitution cases; you would not lower the bar toward more jail time and less probation and related activities in the run-up to the election?

Somehow, though I may be stupid as you allege, your version of the world is counter-intuitive.

And, yes, I am an attorney and I did work with a DA's office early on and I have been involved - seriously - in (California) politics.

In SC, during election year there are more police out at nightclubs, bars, strip clubs and busting drunk driving and prostitution compared to the other years

will be used in a campaign, whether it is prostitution, gambling, etc.

Why these crimes?  Because they are considered quality of life crimes, and without pro-active law enforcement they would not be prosecuted and statistically would not even exist.

Robberies, burglaries, etc. have named victims and reportable statistics, creating their own stories.

... Around election time you get stepped-up law enforcement, more visible police presence, and increasingly vigorous enforcement of chickenshit "quality of life" crimes -- as opposed to robberies and murders, which actually have to be SOLVED.  You also get streets and sewer mains repaired.  Don't take my word for this.  Ask anyone in your local DA's or mayor's office.

Rather than take someone’s word for it, just look at the numbers.  All police departments in Southern California publish their arrest and crime statistics on a monthly basis.  The information is available to the general public and might be available on the internet.  I subscribe to a professional publication that captures that data and publishes the information in its monthly newsletter.  The local election season in Los Angeles just culminated with the mayoral election. The number of arrests for prostitution has remained constant for the last couple years despite elections.

There has been a substantial increase in AMP arrests in the city of Inglewood due to pressure by African American churches.  Inglewood has a terrible street gang problem, but for some reason the local clergy feels AMP’s are a threat to the safety and security of the community.

I have never practiced law outside of California so I cannot provide a qualified opinion on the nuances of local politics and enforcement policies in other states.

Well Digger, I can tell you have never lived in Phoenix! First thing they do at election time is round up the street hookers.
