LaRue,

Yes it is very true. I used to stay at PH Towers almost exclusively. The rooms were large, sexy and located where I could do things on my downtime. Convenient to Miracle Mile for food and shopping.

I have stayed there once now since they changed hands and most likely will not go back. The wifi is slow, painfully. The parking is now horrible for guests that would come to visit me and not much better for hotel guests. Security at the elevator seems to be less friendly.

Finally Hilton ( and I don't know if this extends to its Grand Destination properties ) has a significant security protocol to weed out potential illegal activities on their properties.

Just my two cents

Ok, i can usually be a little out of the loop on hotel take overs, etc. So can someone confirm that Planet Hollywood tower is now called Elara ?

...and renamed it Elara. It's the fourth HGVC resort in Vegas.
Here's a short news bulletin regarding this acquisition:

Introducing Our Newest HGV Resort – Elara
Vegas just got a little more dazzling! HGV recently announced its fourth resort in the city – Elara, a Hilton Grand Vacations Club. The ultra-modern 52-story, 1,201-unit property towers above Center Strip, offering easy access to the Miracle Mile Shops and located adjacent to the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino complex— featuring a renowned casino, nine restaurants and the Mandara Spa. Elara places you in the midst of Vegas' full splendor, yet also allows guests to retreat to comfortable luxury in airy, contemporary spaces with magnificent floo-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city, the Strip, the mountains and/or the desert.

The property is stacked with impressive amenities, both inside and out. In addition to one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom suites, Elara offers studios and junior suite accommodations. There's a huge tropical pool, sprawling sundeck with cabanas, a Poolside Bar & Grill, high-tech fitness center... and the list goes on!

In addition to managing Resort Operations and Sales & Marketing efforts for Elara, HGV will also operate the property's homeowner's association. For those who want to experience Vegas from the most central location in the heart of The Strip — Elara is the place to be! Visit Hilton.com to explore the best availability and great rates – and book a captivating getaway today! New owners of Elara intervals will have an exclusive reservation window later in 2012 for stays beginning in 2013. I have not confirmed but from talking to some players at the Poker Tables that went to the sales "presentation" -- they are now selling them as timeshares. 2 Weeks a year starting off at $200,000.... Lol..

I can think of a million things better to do with $200,000 in Vegas.

;)

They have always been timeshares... was a Westgate timeshare development.. but the lenders foreclosed and hired Hilton to run it.  Should actually improve things as the former manager was out of $$$$$$
