I wouldn’t consider a thread . . .

I think this is a model thread for what we might want on the board so I'm nominating it for the POTY award.

Of course I am too lazy to actually go back and actually read threads to see if this is actually the best example of good info exchange in a positive and objective tone that is largely actionable and not just overly generalized claims.

But sorry to say, even if the post wins, thekgirlfan really doesn't win anything useful -- like a paid session or crap like that. Just maybe group bragging rights from the participants ;-)

It was just an honest open question. Kudos to the OP. More people need to start threads like that. I clearly need to step up my game.

Thanks for pointing this one out. It made me think about what makes a good to great thread.

Negative tone has just as many rights to poty status as positive, methinks. Just like with negative and positive reviews.

TOTY-worthy that had less than 12-15 unique participants. It should be on a topic that has wide interest for the majority of members here rather than a handful responding to a very narrow question.  Let’s raise the bar a little if we are going to open nominations for Thread of the Year.  Just my opinion.

I might agree but given the quality of discussion we've had here over the past couple of year I think the bar has to be lower.

But I'm not that serious about the specif thread but what it represented as an alternative to what we're getting seemed worth pointing out.

I'd be surprised if there's been a thread with 10 or more unique participants. The average has to be around 5 or 6.

In particular, this year or even the past couple of years since this forum was joined by one of the most prolific and long winded monger board trolls I have ever seen (and for anyone who participated in the rouge livre forums that is saying something).  And the emboldening of TER trolls he has inspired is no small part of it.

I’m sure I’m setting us up for a whole series of his patented disjointed and illogical rants. Though, selfishly, I only read his subject headers (because of the way TER Ignore works) except for the rare occasions when I forget to log in before I start reading the forum. He is so predictable that a subject header and awareness of the context, along with the memory of the many ridiculous rants we were subjected to before he found the courage to stop posting under an alias (the one good thing he has done since he got here), is all it takes to figure out the gist of how he will rehash his incredibly repetitive arguments. If I’ve ever missed the mark in guessing what he said or would say, I apologize to all.

So, I have to agree that it’s hard to find a good candidate for a great thread here ever since the emergence of our self proclaimed Lorax of the Mongers troll and the egregious thread hijacking for which he is notorious. The only other small benefit I think he has brought has been a broader awareness of the downside of thread hijacking. I try to be more conscientious about it since he got here myself. And I’ve noticed others, in the attempt to avoid emulating the aforementioned Lorax, seem to have done the same.

Still, that one thread you pointed out, Jensen, was a brief refreshing change. Thanks again to the OP for the post.

the threads listed on the first page of this forum, which only goes back a month, and there are three threads that have between 12 and 15 different participants.  If you go back a year, then there are many more.  So are you surprised?  You learned something new that you weren't seeing even though it was staring you right in the face.  Lol

As our resident TER employee, I'm sure you'll have the time to actually quantify the average number of unique posters per post this past year. If you can't, then I guess your wrongful estimation will remain just that.

If he's wrong it is it's not by much. At least 3 threads I looked at have over 10 different posters.

But I agree it's a royal pain to manually gather the counts -- and not really interested in writing a script to be a crawler for answering the question. Then again, I'm not sure number of posters has to be a requirement for such an award but could see it being criteria in terms of comparing differ posts that seem of the same quality.

embarrassing yourself further than you have in the past?  I told you to check the first page of the Forum, and there are at least three with 12-15 unique participants.  You called me that for being wrong, so here they are, listed by OP . . . . .

"VIP access . . . ."
"BBBJ Queens . . . ."
"K-girls charging $250 . . . ."

Since you have a problem with basic math, perhaps responding to posts that make numerical claims is not a good idea for you.  Doubling-down when you're wrong is no way to build cred.  My original point that you disagreed with had nothing to do with "average" participation, it was about threads with more participation than what you see on THIS thread (at least 12-15 participants).   If you're  going to try to change the narrative to sound correct, this is not the place to do it.  Too many smart guys here.  I won't mention the ones that aren't.  You, . . . . er, I mean, THEY, . . .  know who they are.  Lol   BTW, the only thing close to a TER employee here is ex-moderator GaGambler.

Rocketbro's 'Semi-Shill Friday Thread'.  A must read for Bay Area mongers.

Honorary mention: Twoon's "power of boji". Felt like you had to get it off your chest, brother Twoon, and many times it's very important to do so.

And thank you Twoon for choosing my thread! Very humbled. That resource is amazing tho, right? I was even using it for NYC scouting the other day.

I reread that thread and it was pretty good, thanks for bringing it up, Rocket!
It stayed on topic, with good participation!
No trolling, it was just short and sweet!
