Mostly meaning candies, dessert, etc.

I am not religious but have been wondering.  Guests have told me in the past that they gave up red meat, sweets, beer, or even sex in the past, so curious if you all have given up anything this year.

So as a non-practicing Catholic, I used to give something up every year. This year was the first time I opted to take something on and in turn gave up a few pounds.

2012 - Soda. I'll have it every once in a while but it still burns like hell on the way down.
2013 - Sweets & Baked Goods. I'll still have a good red velvet cupcake or some cheesecake now and then.
2014 - Red Meat. Never again will I give up my right to a medium rare prime rib.
2015 - Alcohol. Beer to be specific. Now my faves are bourbon, whiskey, and scotch.
2016 - Fast food. I rarely ever have it now but those McDonald's French Fries are a guilty pleasure.
2017 - To jog at least a mile every day even if it's my off day from the gym and to follow my weight lifting plan to the "T". I did quite well because I've dropped a bit more weight, have set some amazing PRs, can slide into a size 10 in certain brands, and have toned up. It's lovely!!

Have been doing a day fast (until dinner) on Fridays. Other than that, have been trying a more positive focus this Lent by giving more consistent attention to my spiritual practice, such as it is.

Giving up sex isn't in the cards. At my age, I can't afford to pass up any opportunities! :-)

...the traditional no meat on Friday. My goal will be achieved on Good Friday which is tomorrow for those that are "not religious".

Happy Easter!!

Or at least it never was with my family.  My friends who I like to refer to as cafeteria Catholic generally say they give up something for Lent.
