I always timed my supper to be over about 5pm, at the lowering of Old Glory. I, almost always, had to elbow my way thru a crowd at the chow hall door, who did not want to go outside and salute the flag as she was being lowered for the night. I considered it an honor to show that respect for those gone before me, and who gave that last full measure that allowed me to live the wonderful life that I had to that point--and still do!
Little did I know that years later I would have a wonderful son wearing the uniform that those heroes before him wore, and who I tried to honor in my small way, during the time I wore the uniform. I still raise Old Glory each morning, and lower her at night to honor him(and all our sons and daughters) now, as he has been in combat serving his 4th year

(,,,,,,,,,,, My son has been in aviation for 4 years now - Germany, Iraq, South Korea, and just recently got stationed at Hunter Army Airfield near Savannah GA. He absolutely LOVES Savannah, probably because it's on the beach and close to two college campuses full of pretty young gals.
