It's called Geolocating Software---LE locates you by the pic of the hotel, somehow?  Look on Atlanta's board on 2/9/17 for a description by a guy who knows how it works. He points out it is rare, but who knows which agency has it and can use it for busts, among other things. The world's oldest profession vs newest technology, and the game of whack a provider/hobby folks goes on and on....

taken by cell phones have the geographic coordinates embedded in them.  Most cell phones allow you to turn off this feature.

Now, I am not sure uncle leo is using this feature or not.  To me it would be costly but who knows.

All, without giving to much away, I work in the defense industry (not LE so don't get alarmed). It is possible to do this and there are several different ways that it can be done. The software is very easy to avoid, turn off the location services on your phone. There are hardware devices they can use as well, however they are expensive so most local law enforcement don't have them or don't have the latest and greatest (most federal agencies do) Generally unless it is a life or death search for a missing person they require a court order to operate them. So in general they would most likely not be used to try and locate an individual provider/hobbyist as the juice would not be worth squeeze. Providers if you are still concerned there a couple of other things you can do to protect yourselves, but I'm not going to post in an open forum. You can PM if you want.

Someone posted a link, I think on the general board. This is traffic cam type photo scanning software. Some government agency is asking the public to photograph their hotel rooms and send them the pictures to build a base of rooms. When an add has a picture taken in what looks like a hotel room it is run through the program. A match could mean trouble. Just more creeping communism.
