My SO is going to asia for 10 days. I have been reading that chastity devices are uncomfortable and dirty after 3 days.
I have a local chicago dom that would probably be a "key holder" for me. I have also read that it is pretty easy to snake your member out of the device which would ruin the whole idea. True?

That's not being in chastity - if it was me you would go in it right after your SO leaves and stay in it until right before she comes back...unless you are a damn good beggar, LOL!
If you have a well-fitting device you should be able to wear it the full ten days without issue. The problem, for me, comes from the "well-fitting" part...unfortunately chastity devices are virtually one size fits all, so if you are a little larger or a little smaller than average, it is difficult to find devices that fit properly. Do you have a device already? You might try a CB6000, or you might look aound a bit at metal devices, like a birdcage. House of Denial seems to have a decent variety.

Chastity is fun. And unless you mean "I just want to clean the cage with soap and water" when you say maintenance, 3 releases within 10 days is a lot. I'd maybe allow one if I was feeling very generous. For cleaning purposes, I always prefer good old steal.
Chastity is a real commitment and if you're a beginner I think 10 days is a great place to start. I'd say before your SO leaves, get it all out of your system. You have your SO, you have the hobby etc. It's not that hard.
And find the right size! Don't get the twenty dollar things off of amazon. Size yourself right, comfortable, not too tight, not too lose. I don't recommend the generic the one size ones out there.

SO i checked out a few sex shops in nyc. They didn't 't have any. I also checked the Lovers lane catalog. I didn't want to order it online but the posted website seems to be the place.
Try a leather/gay store....one here in Phoenix sells them, maybe there in NYC they will too!

I did find an assortment at a toy store here in Chicago, but I didn't have cash on me. I am glad you told me about the ease of escape. That is exactly why I wanted to try it. The in-escapability. I will look up the one you suggested.
